Review and Grabs: Metabones Speedbooster Nikon F to M4/3 on AF100

Apart from no FOV difference... I cant even see his claim regarding exposure "brightness".

2 & 4 are darker than 1 & 3 and as I would expect considering they are stopped down 1 stop.

Dude, you must be totally blind. The differences in both FOV and also exposure are extremely obvious.

Are you honestly saying that you cannot see any difference in FOV and exposure between photos 1 and 2? They both used the exact same f-stop.

You don't seem to be paying attention to the descriptions underneath each photo. Or you are confused, and perhaps thinking that they refer to the photo that is below them??

HELP!!!!

Got my speedbooster today, im using Samyang Primes, can anyone confirm what the adapter iris and my iris should be set to BEFORE mounting the lens on the speedbooster because I think I just slightly damaged my 24mm T1.5 prime lens pin as I can't fully close the lens down to f22 anymore, unless I hold the lens in my hand and push the pin closed :(

Lens wide open, speed booster at F8, as far as I understand.
Works for me, I have the same lenses n it works perfectly.

Thanks guys, did you know that before hand or did you just happen across it? I don't have the same issue with the Novaflex adapter but I do have to close that down in order to use the lens iris fully

I think I read it on the Metabones product site... or maybe somewhere else. Complete lack of documentation with the product.

Yea- this important piece of info is available on the site only. My lens wouldn't go on without it. Metabones would save the user some grief (and possible damage) by just adding a reminder in the box.

Got to use my adapter the other day during production.

A word of advise - be sure to check that the lens is securely locked in place =b

I was frantically changing from a ZD 11-22mm to a Nikkor 105mm. I thought I had the lens in place since everything looked lined up. I went to adjust the aperture to no effect so I checked if the lens was properly seated. The lens almost fell out of its mount when I turned it, good thing I had my hands on it. Turns out the flange missed one of the locks and was hanging on the mount through sheer gravity =b

I did notice a loss of sharpness around the edges though when I was reviewing the dailies. I'm not sure whether it was the inherent trait of the lens or if it was because of the added element in the adapter.

Hey Shooter... pretty sure you're reading the columns wrong. Are you looking vertically? Because the comparison is horizontal. In which case, the differences are so large you probably didn't realize that was the comparison...

can you post video of this in action as a comparison? I'd be curious to see some actual footage and people to compare the look as well.

Recently got a chance to quick-test a number of DX lenses on my GH2 with the SB, reporting back some coverage findings:
Nikon 10-24, slight corner darkening at 10-15
Nikon 18-200, slight corner vignetting throughout range
Sigma 10-20, full coverage. Very nice.
Nikon 16-85, corner vignetting throughout
Nikon 17-55, full cocoverage

they also had the Rokinon 85, 35, and 8mm to test, all worked spiffily (as one would expect)

Tamron 17-50 F2.8 has a slight vignette but looks great to me and is now what, a 12-35 F2 constant aperture zoom for £240 pounds!

Tamron 70-200 f2.8, full coverage.

should be arable to test the Olympus OM F1.4 in around a week (have ordered the mount swap from Leitax)

A bit disappointed there's a vignette on this one, but then for ~$300...

The Nikon 17-55 was marvelous on the SB but a much dearer pill to swallow and focuses in the wrong direction.

its more a darkening of the corners than a vignette to be honest, more in line with the Lumix 12-35, its very sharp too.

we should make a sticky topic, post up wide open and F5.6 images from any lenses we own at various ranges on the AF100 for everyone's reference?

Received my Metabones adapter today. Took less than a week to arrive. The FOV difference was very significant and an extra stop of light is always welcome. I did a quick test on my Nikon 35mm, 50, 85, 105, 135 and my tokina 28-70 and 11-16. very nice on all of them. focus was good, and didn't notice any vignetting of the corners. the adapter was a nice tight/firm fit, but it never felt like i was forcing anything. great addition to my bag of toys.

I've always loved working with my old primes, but now they feel as special as my voightlander f0.95, 25mm and Noktor 0.95, 50mm glass.

This may interest some of you; http://www.leitax.com/OlympusOM-lens-for-Nikon-cameras.html

its a remounting service for Olympus OM lenses for Nikon mounts, I'm going to have my 50mm 1.4 converted (its DIY and reversible) I have a few other interesting Olympus OM primes and love using them, the speedbooster could be a great sharpness and brightness boost for these old lenses

Thanks for posting that. This is good news for those of us with a large cache of OM glass. I look forward to your updates on how the conversion goes.

Just Waiting on the mount, in the mean time, here is the Samyang 85mm T1.5 Cine @ T2 via the speedbooster (=60mm T1.5)

Hmmm, it seems to have halved the resolution once uploaded?

Yeah, checking out a Rok 85, 8, and 35/1.4 on the booster seriously made me consider getting the whole set. I could sell one Leica R to fund them. Great glass for the cash
