reverse telecine after editing is complete?

24pa capture is a little buggy as I have discovered from firsthand experience and from what I gathered online. Can I capture as 29.97, edit the whole project, and then bring the entire project to cinema tools and use the reverse telecine process and STILL achieve the same quality I would have if I had captured with the advanced pulldown?

Obviously it'd be easier to just capture as pure 23.97 but Final Cut for some reason is reading the footage as 29.97.

Wouldn't recommend trying it after the fact.

As for FCP reading it as 29.97... is it showing each clip as 29.97, or just in the time line? If it's in the time line, remember that you have to create a new sequence after you change your sequence settings. Changing those settings won't affect any existing sequences.

Editing at 24p has quite a few advantages and gives you flexibility with what frame rates you want to end with. If you edit your 29.97 (24pa with pulldown) with the pulldown still in then your pulldown cadence will change from shot to shot and will be harder if not impossible to remove later unless you manually go in and remove it. This may be okay if you are ending on 29.97 and will only be viewing on interlaced monitors because a progressive monitor will show the interlaced pulldown.

If you can't get FCP to capture at 24p then you could use a program like DVFilm Maker or Raylight MXFX to remove the pulldown after you have captured at 29.97 and before you edit. MXFX works with mxf files and Maker pretty much works with everything else. You can demo both with the links.

Best,
Andy
