Reverse-lens Macro with d90 - short

Attached a 50mm face to face with a 100mm mounted on the d90... its an old trick to get a super-magnified image with razor-shallow DOF.

I went out looking for bugs and stuff, and I couldn't find a single live one.. its fall here.. but I did find some flying ant corpses, also shot paper, hair, eyes etc.

And then I got the idea for a short piece... the URL is below. I've been experimenting with every look in the book for treating d90 footage.. been keen on a ultra hi-contrast b/w heavy-grain look in the last days.

Below is the result:

ZOWIE! that is by FAR one of the coolest things i've not only seen from a d90, but from this forum in general. amazing. absolutely amazing.

Holy smokes!!!

I've been lurking this section for while now, but after seeing that short piece of sweetness,I have to say Matthew......you rock in so many ways.

Keep us hooked on your work.

Oh and Matt.

How about a brief clip on how to set up the super duper micro?

Danka for all of your coolness and contribution!

I just found this article...

I'll try to find the other articles too...
Basically it was a 100mm manual nikon on the body, and then I taped a 50mm 1.4 manual to it, so both lenses are face to face. You can also do it with a male to male filter adapter... You get a super small field of view, like a penny would fill the frame fro instance, and the DOF is ridiculously shallow. And you have to place the lens front about an inch away from subject.
If you have two manual full frame lenses around try it! I'm going to try different combos of lenses to see what I get..

Matthew, that's fantastic ! :D

Besides the great feel (very very 16mm) it's actually quite funny too, love the plastic over his glasses.

Just brilliant.

i think you should consider sending this to a couple of "underground" festivals. i bet a couple will pick it up. especially at under 2 minutes. i showed it to a friend at work and afterwards she said "no. just. no. that's a lot of no. no no no." she actually jumped and started moving away at the tweaky end part when you say they're inside you.

inspiring.

there should be a d90fest.

That was truly amazing.

I bought D90 a couple of weeks ago, replaced the lovely DVX.

At this price point, I don't know how there can be haters. The options of lens and all that comes with that makes this thing worthwhile to shoot with.

The jpeg compression kinda hurts, but people are continuing to find a way to battle through that and make this camera really sing.

that was cool - kinda tetsuo-ish too
my fave d90 movie so far!

i read somewhere that for realistic minature shots you're supposed to up the framerate to fps x √scale
so for quarter scale you'd film at 48fps etc
