Revenge of the Fallen

i dont really understand the reason for why everyone is hating on this movie so much
some people want to see it for some thrill and actions
they dont really care how masterfully done it is as long as they get what they want
i was supposed to watch it today but things came up -.-
im actually looking forward to it even with all the negative reviews

If you are complaining about people analyzing movies more than the average viewer, then I would ask you - why are you on a filmmakers' website?

Something that I find on DVXUser is a lot of 20 yr olds in bumblepoo poo nowhere towns who like to act all Hollywood, and throw on a condescending tone, because only they know how the world really works.

Wow. Mark - I think that might be the most dickish comment you've said. And I've respected your work. Sorry for offending the "filmmaking" community. I've been here for a few years now. Guess I'm not enough of a filmmaker to be on this website.

I wasn't trying to be condescending or all "hollywood".

Well, I will agree with Mark in a less dickish manner that telling people critical of a movie "what were you expecting?" is a pretty lame cop out. People have a right to expect something that costs upwards of 300 million dollars to have something resembling a coherent story, or characters you give two sh*ts about. If a movie that costs under a million dollars can have a compelling screenplay, why can't a multi-million dollar one? They are not mutually exclusive. I personally want more out a film than just action and some 'splodo, and that is in no way an unreasonable demand for an action film, considering its been done well even in the recent past.

After seeing transformers 1, I went in knowing what to expect, and because of this I enjoyed it.

Megan Fox (and that other girl at the begining) both made my heart skip. Megan is lucky that her looks distract from her acting ability.

The things that really pissed me off were:

1) the robots that mimicked humans, like the twins, or the old fart, who just had to carry around a cane, talk and act like an old man. They're transformers, shouldn't the age differently? They're not humans...

2) the obvious bay over the top dramatic moments, like the "I love you" scene. I was just thinking "duh, I wonder what happens now"

3) the plot... heck I'm not even sure I remember what it was about and I saw it two nights ago...

But it was a fun ride, with lots of eye candy. He's all style and no substance, but that style is fun to watch.

Cut 100 million off that number and you have it.

Well, I am a 20 something, I've been here for a while, I (most of the time) enjoy this site. I'm not a cop out. I try not to be a dick.

I didn't go into this expecting a film like Slumdog or The Godfather. It seems as though people focus on framerates and what books have told them. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the way things are going. But I never was under the impression that Transformers directed by Bay would be anything more than an explosion fest. Under a different director, my expectations would be different.

So, I voiced it. That's what this forum is for. Voicing opinions. I disagreed with what people said, and how they critiqued the films. I don't disagree with what people said, I only stated that expectations shouldn't have been too high.

And then (as per traditional internet) I am told I essentially shouldn't be here. And that, is what is wrong.

Where did I say a multi-million dollar film can't have a good story? I don't expect anything meaningful from Bay. And for past discussion, I thought most people were on the same page.

I only said, it's more than cameras and sometimes more than just story to make a "good" {makes money} film. And I've seen people say a film was bad because they used a wrong shutter speed. In the end, no one really cares. And that was my point. So I really don't know what I did so terribly wrong.

------------

Jon, you're right. There wasn't any plot. I wish there was more to the final battle. I didn't know if the fallen had brought in some friends or not. The entire thing resolved too quickly as well.

Am I the only one who doesn't find Fox ungodly attractive?

I find her ungodly attractive. I also think she's not a bad actor. Her character didn't have too much to do this time round though (not in terms of screen time). Is it just me or did she seem to be different to her character in the first movie? She's a pessimist, needy chick here.

Ps you all sound like u need a hug, I'll see what JDS can do.

lighten up, gentlemen. It's just a movie. Go into that theater expecting nothing much but lots of Giant robot smackdown Bayhem and you'll enjoy it.

Hopefully James Cameron's Avatar will be that film. But you're right, both Transformers films could've been so much more.

Same thing with something like Independence Day, which is one of those guilty pleasure movies I always watch when its on TV, but there is some god awful humor and just plain cheesy junk that taints that film. Doesn't totally ruin the movie, but it does make you think if only they would've taken this more seriously.

This is exactly the "let's give it a pass because it's Bay" attitude that annoys me and what bothered Mark Harris. Nobody needs to lighten up. Or lower their expectations. Or give it a pass because it's "just an action film". If I hold my nose and remove my taste buds, I'm sure I could eat sh*t too and enjoy it...I haven't seen Transformers 2 yet, but for the record I did enjoy to first Transformers, because it had something resembling a story I could follow, and characters I sort of liked. I don't need every action film to take itself as seriously as The Dark Knight. But come on, it still needs to have SOME craftsmanship in the writing, not just a bunch of haphazardly assembled gags and plot points tossed together into a cuisinart. And that's what I usually get from a Michael Bay film.

I think they spent more time figuring out how to advertise numerous products through out the movie than they did on the script.

1. Megan Fox

2. Megan Fox in slo mo

3. Megan Fox from behind

My filmmakers mind leaves my head when she comes onscreen :-) In between her appearances, I thought it had a more mature tone (more violence, swearing, etc) with the massive exception of the horrible twins. It should be re-cut with them gone, and Megan's shots repeated for no apparent reason

Gentlemen, how you feel is yours to express. One thing is for sure...Bay is counting his millions while we budhead with each other.....:) Let's get ready to RUMBBBBBBBBBLE!!

Heated thread is heated.

Just saw it last night Movie was long, but a great break from reality. Had some funny stuff in it and I kept seeing a lot of shots I wish I could pull off. And every so often I zoned out and started thinking about my own writing.

All in all, not a bad 20.00 to spend. Me and the woman kind, anyway.

It was neat how they worked in Shia Lebouf's drunken car accident injured hand.

I think filth hit the nail on the head on the first page of this thread. I went in to this movie without reading any reviews or opening this thread intentionally. I find I get swayed if I do. All I knew was from what I knew from the first one. I didn't even know what this one was going to be about. Sadly, I kinda still don't. I've already forgotten. I saw it 2 hours ago.

I'm not a Michael Bay fanatic, nor do I despise him as most film buffs seem to. I enjoy his stuff, though. I know a lot of crap is going to blow up. That's awesome. I also know there's going to be a slow motion dollying shot of the main character from chest level as he/she looks slightly off to the side and up. Check.

The whole twins thing, though. I couldn't freaking believe it. I saw someone mention Jar Jar on this thread, and it's dead on. Annoying stereotype that added nothing to the movie. I would have to give this movie a solid 8 out of 10 with a lot of fault to them. They were gimmicky, childish, and cliche. Without them, I'd bump it up to an 8.7.

Am I saying I could pull this movie off? Ab-so-freaking-lutely not. In all honesty, I sit there amazed, wondering what it must take to render that. I'm blown away by the explosions and gun fire, not to mention the fact that these things transform. Yes, I know it's CG. That's another thing that blows my mind. I can't make a rock in 3d look like a rock. They can take a camero and seemlessly transform it.

I guess I was expecting more. I went into the first movie not expecting much. I was blown away. This one was like, "Eh, I feel like I've already seen this." Especially since I can think of a couple handfuls of shots from 1 and 2 that I could put side by side, and you wouldn't know which movie it was from.

A lot of the audience seems to be saying that they liked the first one better due to better character development, pacing, etc... but I felt the second one was paced better. Part 2 didn't have as much character development though, I'll agree with that one. The problem I had with the first one was that they went too overboard with the comedy and human hysterics. It felt like the actors were on crack and Red Bull the whole time. Besides some lame humor in this one, the comedy was tempered enough so that it didn't fight with the action and suspense of all the destruction going on around everyone. Overall, I felt the action was more satisfying in this one too.

Hawk is right though, the twins brought this movie down several notches. Really pointless characters. I can understand Bay and his writers wanting to have comedic relief characters, but it just seems too much of a stretch to have ghetto/hip hop/monkey robots. I know this is a somewhat silly and far-fetched piece of techno-fantasy, but Star Wars is also silly at times and fantastical and just look at Jar Jar. Same thing with another techno-fantasy known as The Matrix trilogy. They got by without going silly and had diverse characters of different racial backgrounds and cultures in key roles.

Not as annoying as the twins was the elderly British chap of a transformer that was disguised as an SR-71 Blackbird. I though it was pretty lame that they characterized him as an old man, like he was aged like a human would. What the heck was that? They might as well have him wearing a freaking monocle, top hat, and breaking for tea in the middle of the climactic battle. And what a freaking waste not having him fighting the Decepticon F22 Raptor. Think of the awesome battle that could have been... start it in the air and then have them transform into their robot forms as they plummet to the earth, duking it out until a few seconds before impact they switch back to jet form and swoop up into the air in opposite directions.

Still, despite these negatives I thought it was a fun movie. Reminds me a lot of a silly spectacle called Independence Day.

I had fun! :) Not as good as the first one, but I got what I wanted... high action, entertaining 2+ hours... and Michael Bay :D
