Revelations - a 5D film

Ooh I quite enjoyed that. Ace!

A few things though, maybe intentional, I can't be too sure:

You've composed a few of the medium/wide shots from sales aethetic, where there's less headroom to give more focus to the suits rather than the eyes.

At 2:05 there's a very lingering cut of the guy looking at his partner. Combined with the performance, choice of intimate close-up, and cigarette usage (a clear sexual metaphor for noir), it gives off the subtext that he's in love with him and wants him all over the bed. I was well disappointed they didn't have a proper thumble and tussle at the end :(

I'm wondering what title applies best to this camera setup... the new DVX, new Cinealta F900 or new RED ONE ;-)

rofl. I actually caught them dancing in the fight scene.

I used 2 cool lights CL-LED600 flood LED light panels for key and fill light and a few CFL handheld worklights for backlight. I used an LED strobe to simulate lightning flashes and a blue flashing LED strobe as a cop car light filtering through the window. It's a mix of daylight and a cool light LED in the scene where he wakes up.

I didn't have much time to light it so it could have been lit a lot better.

I think its nicely lit - better than battling over powerful and contrasty red heads

what sort of ISOs were you getting

I used optical flow over the whole thing to convert it from 30-24p

Lenses all nikon ai. Mostly 105mm, 35mm, 50mm.

I don't notice the optical flow so it did its job well. Twixtor?

Nice choice of lenses, a lot of people using Nikon AI and non-AI.

The optical flow did create some strange artifacts, the most notable at 2:22. Look at the actors eyebrow. There was a flash of light in the shot. If it weren't for the flashing lights I think it would have worked pretty well. I haven't tried twixtor but I'm going to get it soon to try some slo-mo with the 5D.

I'm really happy with the nikon ai glass and don't see any reason to spend any more on zeiss or L glass. I did some tests recently with a friends 24-70 L lens and it held up well against the nikons. It was sharper wide open but I like the softer edges of the 24mm nikon and the vignetting and distortions. I look for the opposite of the qualities in a lens that I think a pro stills photographer looks for. The nikons just have more character IMO.

If the Nikon 50 you used was the 1.4 AI, it is a little soft around the edges, especially wide open. But it gives a nice old school look and I find it particularly nice for video, especially for a "film noir" look like you needed. At HD res I frankly don't think you see actual "softness" but it does give a particular look.

The video someone posted recently of a music video for Hanson (*groan*) which was a remake of the blues brothers used all Nikon lenses which did give a really nice '70's look.

I purchased a Nikkor 50 f1.4 non-AI and am going to post some video in a couple of weeks.

I love noir, really cool piece visually, but i felt like the voice over was read to fast, and wasnt gritty enough. Slow it down a bit, think bogart, think Sunset Blvd, etc.. etc... I also felt the accent wasnt very noir like.

The music seemed a bit to fast for the mood, then again maybe im more of a traditionalist when it comes to noir.

Keep it up though, i really loved the last shot the lighting of it was very moody and dark.
