Results of warranty service on headphones, and an operating hint

I posted a few weeks back looking for a recommendation on an authorized warranty repair depot for my DVX which had the dreaded "dead phones" problem. A member emailed me to recommend Fox Valley Video Service (http://www.fvvs.com) in Illinois. Yes, I'm from the New York Area -- why go to Illinois? Because, as a New York Area person I have this gut belief (unsubstantiated) that people from the midwest are more honest.

Anyway, it cost me less to UPS my baby to Illinois that it would to have driven it into the city (about $20). Dennis Huntowski took a personal interest in the work, and shepherded it right through. In addition to replacing the VTR board, they cleaned the tape transport. Everything right as rain, and back in my hands in about 10 days. Return UPS charges were nil (I assume Panasonic picks them up).

I'm fully satisfied with Fox Valley Video Service and I'll use them again if future work is needed.

Anyway, I was curious if I had done anything to exacerbate or cause the phones problem. Dennis responded that although he has no firm evidence, he believes that phones should not be plugged in or unplugged with the camera powered up. And, yes, I had done this a few times. So I will never, never, never do it again, cross my heart.

Thanks Dennis!

That's another of the things Panasonic should think about for the 100B model. Isolating (or better isolating) the headphones and firewire jacks. There's no reason in the world for this to happen. When was the last time anyone blew their stereo or walkman or whatever by plugging in headphones?
