Resolution of DVX

Hello all,

I am trying to do a computer game using real people & locations. After reading about the cameras & this forum I decided to go with the dvx.

And got the firewire board and used the software came with to capture test footage. Somehow the size came out as 352x240 pixels. But I thought it was sopposed to be 720x480 pixels. My goal is to use 800x600 screen size with 720x480 viewable area.

Is it something to do with the software or with camera setttings? Any feedback will be appreciated. To keep it simple I used f5 scene file setting.

thanks

Re: Resolution of DVX

Did you capture as an mpeg1? That is the native resolution of mpeg1 video?

What software were you using?

Re: Resolution of DVX

720x480 is standard. It's definitely something to do with the software you're using. Download the Adobe Premiere trial and try capturing with that.

Or you can get Pinnacle Studio 9 for $79.00 and use the capture mode in that set to full DV quality.

Re: Resolution of DVX

Thank you all. It was from the software. I tried it with the Premire, it captured it fine.

I couldn't run the Premiere Pro 1.5 version. I have Win 98. While I was figuring out the software I realized Pro supports 24p editing but not the Premiere. That's too bad for me. I need to get something to run on Win 98 & do 24p editing.

Does Pinnacle support 24p editing for Win 98?

thanks again

Re: Resolution of DVX

Pinnacle Cinewave 3 supports 24p, but I doubt it will run on Win98. May I ask why you are still using Win98? Can you do a dual boot (install win2000)? Your computer might be too old to effectively capture and edit high-res footage. What are the specs of your computer?

Re: Resolution of DVX

I wanted to use win 98 to develop a game. Since the game OS requirements needed 98/me/2000/xp I am guessing if it runs on win 98, it will potentially run on newer ones. But never know.

But I have been realizing that my system (3 yrs old, 40gig space, 512MB ram) is not going be good enough. In few months (Jan, Feb) I am going to buy a new system for video editing.

I read that I can get capture card that is bundled with a good NLE editing soft. Would that be wiser than buying 'em seperately? I am not so sure. Anyways, at the moment I am just working on a demo for the game. I'll keep the win 98 machine for testing purposes.

Thanks again,
