Reseting FCP settings?

I have messed with FCP soo much trying to figure out how to get 24pa footage to look right, and now going back to 60i footage, i cant find the original settings. Is there something to do to reset to all the preset settings of FCP? now when i try to capture some footage and pull it into the timeline it either needs to be rendered everytime it is touched, has horizontal lines through it (Much thicker then deinterlaced footage), or randomly works just fine.

i opened an old timeline with footage that works, and tried to import some new footage i edited, and the new footage just shows static/colorful rectangles that dont make up the image at all. Trying to figure out what was different i right clicked the footage under the sequence at the top, and clicked item properties. The old footage was h.264, and the new footage that doesnt work says dv/dvcpro - ntsc. That is the only thing i see different. I tried to look under all the settings, (timeline settings, easy setup, audio/video settings) and dont see anywhere to change it back to h.264. Did i export my new footage wrong? how do i change my FCP settings back to h.264. i probly have other settings messed up to, so how do i just get back to the preset settings? And is there a way for me to put my h.264 footage in the same timeline with my dv/dvcpro-nts footage and have them both work? (i need to do this for my demo reel)

-and it looks like a lot of people screw things up like i did and cant figure out how to simply capture and export 24pa footage correctly? instead of trying to explain it over and over, why has nobody just made a video filming themselves mess with FCP settings, capture and export footage correctly? this would take 20 minutes and prevent hundreds of unneeded posts and be easier to follow?

The answer is simple:

You must go to your capture and sequence settings and set them for each new project according to the format you're using. You must also change these settings when you open an older project and need to go back to working with that format.

yea i said i understood that, but ive messed with it so much i have completely horrible settings and dont know how to get back to the original settings that worked fine.

Go to your easy setup. If you're capturing 60i use dv/dvcpro - ntsc to capture and set your sequence settings at 29.97 ntsc. When you have a sequence open check the esquence settings. You can change it to whatever format you are importing if it's different. It is really simple, but you might want to look at the manual.
You said you have h.264 in your timeline? I didn't think you could edit h.264, though you can export that codec.

do you mean use dv ntsc 48 kHz, b/c what you said is not an option.

and i guess i exported as dv/dvcpro - ntsc (or something else), instead of h.264. I have the file and can burn it to a dvd fine, i can open it up with FCP, but when i put it in the timeline its just colorful bars and fuzz. i need to chop this project up with another project i exported correctly, is there anyway to get this video to work correctly when placed in a timeline?

also, should the frame size be ntsc (3:2) or ntsc (4:3) ???

ok i just went to export this weeks session and nowhere in exporting do i see h.264 as an option. i am just going under final cut pro, to export then to the top choice, i think it's export quicktime movie. i just choose to export it as the same option i captured and put it in the timeline as, dv ntsc 48 kHz.

i think this is exactly what i use to do, but for some reason the videos now wont work when i import them into my demo reel and try to mix the footage together... so something is messed up with settings in either my timeline or how im exporting it, but im choosing the same options i use to.
