GH4 Researching quick video sending (using phone): ideas?

Researching some options here, would like to hear from others that have done this.

Theoretical job: shoot a short speech and get it to us as soon as possible (digital upload)

What I've found so far: The only codec I'm able to save to my iPhone is the lesser MP4 (and not UHD).

I can send the resulting file(s) to my iPhone, but once there, they're stuck. Best bet was to save the file to DropBox first, but that upload takes FOREVER (even for a 20s clip) and the minute the phone falls asleep, the upload fails.

Yes, in those situations where I shoot and then go on the road for several hours. I have 3g available the entire time. If wifi were available, I'd just use a laptop.

Can you tether instead? Just checking to see if you can go beyond the iPhone.

What I've done with photos that needed a quick turnaround was to send them via a tethered connection on the laptop.

Also, if you weren't going to send to Dropbox, what were you going to do? FTP? Email? I know DropBox is not always the fastest but if it's really very slow you might not get much speed improvements via other means. I also don't know how good your 3G coverage and speed is.

Would wetransfer work for you? It has a two gig limit, but you might be able to either split the files, or pay for them to lift the limitation. And yes, on the road, if your phone can do it, have it create a hotspot for your computer.

Yes setup a hotspot so your phone can become a network connection for your laptop. Don't even attempt to upload directly from the phone. If you don't want to use your phone and want a dedicated device that will last longer in terms of battery life then get a mobile hotspot device. We used to use these a lot for remote location live video streaming. When we traveled to other countries for a live video stream we would purchase the best hotspot devices or air cards we could in that particular country. For extra speed when only 3G was an option we used a special streaming box that could bond together multiple 3G air cards.

Yes expensive but that's the name of the game if you want internet access in remote locations. This is not going to be cheap and hopefully you will be charging the client for datarate charges. Keep in mind how quickly a 32GB card can be filled up with the GH4 and how much 2GB of data costs and do the math. Basically it equals not cheap.
