res chart between 4:3, 16:9 squeeze and 16:9 anamorphic

Did a fruitless search for resolution charts that compare the DVX's native 4x3, 16:9 squeeze mode and 16:9 anamorphic. Anyone can point me to those, if indeed they exist. If it's inBarry's book, I'll be receiving it shortly. If not, I'd really would like to see them.

Also, when shooting 16:9 squeeze, which detail level is optimal for interlaced TV (Thin, Mid, Thick)?

whoa whoa whoa. I dont mean to hijack the thread. But i thought that squeeze would give you anamorphic. I also thought that the two choices were squeeze and letterbox. a simple answer will be good enough. sorry for derailing.

Squeeze mode yields an anamorphic 16:9 image, but at the loss of resolution. The anamorphic lens gives you the 16:9 image at full resolution. Letterbox is just a 4:3 image with bars matted on it.

Barry, sorry if this is a dumb question, but would the HVX200, native 16:9 image in SD, still give you a better image than the DVX100B in squeeze mode, but up-rezzed with S-spline software? Thanks for the advice!

It's in the book, yes.

And if you're using squeeze, always always always use THIN.
Of course, I can't wait to soak up the info on the DVX Book... as soon as I receive it. I'm shooting this Friday with two DVX100B, my brand spanking new one (getting it tomorrow), and a rental. The shoot requires 16x9, and I really want to do it without the anamorphic adapter.

So I take it by shooting thin, the detail level will actually be brought up to around mid level with the resampling, and therefore be usable for TV viewing? Any other tidbit of settings I should be aware of?

Thanks again Barry! You're the man!

If you go for in camera uprez (= anamorphic output) then at least go for progressive mode, otherwise vertical resolution loss and vertical uprez artifacts will deteriorate you image quality.
