Got our 300 a few weeks ago. So far, we're happy with it.
But we did encounter a problem that I told my shooters to be aware of.
When you switch resolutions (from 1080 to 720 or vice versa), the camera defaults to AVC-Intra. If you're not careful, this could really bite you later if all you can edit is DVCPRO (like us).
This happened today in the field. Just got a call from the crew and they said they shot some stuff (not redoable) in AVC-Intra.
These clips aren't going to be edited by us (we're an Adobe CS3 house); we're giving them to the client, who is a Final Cut house. I hear I can buy a $500 plug-in to permit AVC-Intra editing in Premiere, but does Final Cut natively injest AVC-Intra material?
They switched the camera back to DVCPRO, but those early clips are stuck in AVC-Intra.
I think the camera should STAY at the codec it was prior to the resolution change. This is a serious flaw in the software, in my opinion.
Thanks.
