Hi all,

Is it a good idea to have a thread where we can post requests for the next version?
In the hope that the developers will be pointed in this direction, and take heed?

So here we go, I'll start with one.

The p2 ingesting tool in Edius has a few bits of missing functionality which added together seem to be making life a little difficult for me. The missing elements are:

- No memory of directories previously visited, or 'favorites' in the p2 directory browser: you always land at the root of the filesystem on each new browse: very primitive

- Inability to select multiple directories through the same, primitive browser: even if all your p2 directories are conveniently placed in one uber directory, you have to browse to that directory to get to them one by one, over and over, in order to add them to the list... Seems like a huge waste of time that could easily be fixed.

- Lastly, no drag and drop functionality for the p2 directory list. If this were implemented, there would be a way of getting around the first two limitations: just browse in windows explorer to the directory with all your p2 card dirs, and drag them all over to the Edius p2 folder list. This does not work.

So to conclude, this is an easy one to fix guys: you have the choice of three things, and each one will solve the problem. Of course it would be great if you fixed all three. A package at Edius' price point should start to be conscious of this type of ergonomic need.

I'd like to see a fix so that we can record 720P. I have no problem with 1080 but I get a "disk too slow" warning when I try to record in 720. Inexcusable.
 
dregenthal, whats your PC setup?
Im always using 720 24P, i use both the HQ codec and native m2t when capturing to a single SATA drive. No problems on a P4 3.4 ghz PC.
 
teddybear - we are talking about DVCPro HD 720p/24p/25p/50p (e.g. codec DV100_720/24p etc.). Direct recording from a HVX200 to Canopus Broadcast V4 and up is still not possible - even with high end workstations. Are you talking about a HVX200? We all would be very happy to have a solution to our problem. The bug has been reported to Canopus.
 
I'll have to give it another try then -- works perfectly in 1080.

Dell Workstation 490. 4 gigs Ram, two Pentium 4 Xeon 3.2 processors. SATA II internals and a MEDEA 1.25 Terrabyte external, scsi mounted. Windows XP Pro.

BTW, I should add, works great with DV Rack 2.0 HD . . . not a hitch.

Here's another one: I'm not sure what it is due to but I think it might be the auto-save.

Several times, while typing in comments on clips in the bin, the focus returns to the main window for no apparent reason. Of course I keep typing and many of the keys I hit are hotkeys, so suddenly I have done a bunch of unintended stuff to my scene.

What is causing this? If it is the autosave, could we change its behaviour to wait until any text fields have been entered before rudely grabbing focus like that?

Anyone else had this?

We need someone reporting those things to sweet little japan!

I also got one very important improvement we need:
You can use external lockit methods and easyly syncronize an external audiofile with the video with an "auto-snap" function in AVID for example.

As i really wanna stick on Edius for the great performance and perfect P2 workflow, this function would be great..its specially for documentarys where you cant connect the audio mixer with the HVX..!

The funny thing is, that Edius can already read out the LTC from a BWF .wav-file!
(SR over on the us canopus -forum found this out, i tryed it and its true).
So only thing we need is edius ability to read out the lockit TC on the audiotrack of the clip coming from the HVX-and a kind of "sync-function".

But this should technicly easy, its just a question of communication and willing from Canopus side.

I am working a lot with documentary people, and to them this is a very powerfull professional function..and it would make Edius much more interesting for those kind of pros, specially since avid programmaded probably some bugs in the last 2 updates, so that the TC cant be read out anymore..but it worked in older versions..!

So please Bhiga, help us to make the Software more powerfullm i am open for any question, sorry if the post sounds a little confusing or too long!

Nov 14, I got a first feedback from Canopus Germany. Quote: "It will took a while.., we'll ask Panasonic if this should really work as described!!!!". I was somewhat happy to have a feedback but this is more than disappointing.

Next Friday there is a Panasonic Event in Zurich - TV by IT: Television by Information Technology. Canopus will be present too. I will try to pinpoint this bug.
I'll keep you informed.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding here, but my Add Folder happily adds and keeps any subdirectories I've added. I'm using v4.1

Hey Bhiga,

Yes, my folders get added to the list too.
What I'm looking for is the ability to easily return to a certain directory to choose new folders to add. As things stand, the browser is the barebones windows one which lands you at the desktop level everytime you open it.
If you are going through the process off adding 20 'virtual' p2 cards of data to a project, you want to be able to get to the directory where they all live instantly so you don't waste time navigating to it each and every twenty times!

Lets say all my p2 data is sitting in :

v:/sourceClips/ASK/p2repository/

Navigating there for each and every folder I add is maddening :)

We need to either have the browser remember where you have been and return you there by default OR better yet, have it remember a list of previously visited directories like most high end packages OR even better, allow one to drag and drop folders from Windows explorer into the folder list.
All of the above would be best.

Does this make more sense?

Hey,

Here's another one that may seem small, but the small stuff adds up to make a package friendly ... or not so friendly.

When viewing clips in the bin in the Detail Text (Large) mode, you can have the clip comments in one of the columns. As things stand, the text does not wrap and you pretty quickly use up whatever screen space you can devote to the column, leaving part of your comment invisible. I don't see why the text can't wrap: this display mode has the space for three - maybe five lines of text! This option would be appreciated!

Another associated annoyance: the great idea of having the comment data pop up when the cursor hovers over the clip icon, implemented in the icon view, is not implemented in any of the other bin display modes. Real shame! It would be great to be able to turn this on for the other modes.

Thats a great point, specially in P2 times, when you keep all the cards in one folder each, to be able to recover via DVD-backupt, for the case something happens..!

I was a lillte disappointed of Edius when i tryed to open up an older project from a different direction, and edius tryed to recover the files: despite the fact that it wouldnt change to "ok" when i selected the right clip (which is really strange as it was the exact name and direction!??), i felt also stupid that you have to select EACH CLIP....i dont wanna say that..ouch..but if i had a problem like that in premiere (back in the days..) i just had to click one clip in each folder, and premiere would automaticly connect to the other missing files in the folder...!

Brandon, i know that you do really much for us, but human beings are evil: they want EVEN MORE!!

Id be really happy if you could help all of us in contacting the right persons in Japan to make Edius better in some points.(mentioned above..)

I would also be happy to hear from you, what you think about the whole audio-sync topic, that would be just great if this would be possible, as i told earlier, this shouldnt be that hard technicly, but someone gotta program it...!

Hi guys,

Something else that could easily be vastly improved: the keyboard shortcut dialog...
It has no query function, so it is impossible to know if a key is already assigned to something without reading through the entire list!

To make matters worse, when you assign a key to a function, it does not warn you if the key was already previously assigned to something else: it just reassigns it.

Well, unfortunately the powers that be for EDIUS don't watch the dvxuser boards. There are a couple of nice suggestions here, though, and I have a couple of my own.

Probably the best thing to do: Compile a list that we all think pertinent and worthy. Then, (I believe Canopus.com has a section where you can report bugs, request changes, etc. Maybe Brandon can verify that) go to the Canopus site and one of us can add all of the suggestions of value and bugs to the list. Hopefuly that will have an impact.

Sounds good and thanks for the heads up.
I guess since I started this whole thing, I'll volunteer myself to put our suggestions up there all in one go. I reckon it will have more impact if it is coming from all the dvxusers in one go, rather than if we all individually post our concerns...

I suggest we keep this thread going for another couple of weeks to give a chance to people to post all their suggestions.
Meanwhile, Bhiga and any other people in the know can weed out the suggestions which are due to a lack of knowledge of the software (I'm sure some of mine are due to that).

Sounds good. I'll be thinking of some. And I'll have to re-read this thread again. The one suggested earlier that does stick out in my mind is the one about tools --> p2 select. I find myself frequently importing p2 clips from multiple folders into the bin. It would be a very simple and nice user friendly addition to allow one to select a folder --> select clips from that folder --> import them --> select a folder --> select clips --> import, and so on and so forth without the import window closing and having to re open it. When one is done they can then close the import window.

A potential bug that I don't think I have heard mentioned:
mp3's I was working with an mp3 file on my timeline the other evening... Every 30 seconds or so I would get fatal error, crash to desktop. Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

It'll be a while before I can get back. I have some stuff going on right now

i second the idea of putting our suggestions together and place it finally at the Canopus list!
Id also be happy if Brandon would find a second to tell us, where our ideas find the best attention!?

Malcom, if you have any question for the "sound-sync"-function, pm me please, i am not sure if i was so clear in my earlyer posts...!

I m not sure, bt being disappointed by avid a couple of times i guess that specially for PC/HVX user, edius broadcast is a great choice!
Hope Panasonic will notice this power and put some work int our "demands"!

Hi there,

You're right, I didn't comlpetely understand that post of your's... Probably because I am unfamiliar with the functionality you are looking for.
Is it some sort of recorded signal that the software can read to automatically sync separately recorded sound with the image?
