Requesting feedback on film trailer

Hey James,

What I got from your trailer was the following:

Seemed well shot and acted.

The buildup at the end of the trailer needs to have smaller timed shots, i.e. if they currently are 1 second long, they need to be maybe less than a half a second. Just enough for the audience to see, but not fully understand.

It seemed more like a thriller than a horror. So if horror was your aim, you need to build more suspence, otherwise it worked find in the basic flow.

Something seemed to be missing, can't tell you exactly what it is, just a defining moment and that moment resonating through the trailer.

Right now that's all I have. I'm currently working a trailer myself and having a hard time with it. ;-)

What did you shoot with? Give us some specs on your movie, I'd love to know. Thanks

We used the HVX-200 with the Red Rock M2 35mm adapter. The film is a thriller, but I agree that there is something missing, something to make it pop more than it already does. I already went back and cut most of the final sequence images to about half a sec (12-13 frames), maybe I can snip some more. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. If you want a fresh pair of eyes on your trailer, and maybe a suggestion or two, let me know. I'm more than willing to help.

Thanks again.

Hey James. I just watched the trailer. Overall, it was good, just a few things that pulled me out of it. The first is the lightning effect at the beginning. I would either cut it or have a pro VFX guy tackle it. Maybe get a matte painter to do it or a kick butt compositor, because it really stood out. I agree about the pace of the cuts at the end. They need to be sped up or start slow and build speed. I would make the gunshot Louder, so it jars the audience.

Some beautiful work there! Congrats! You can tell it was a lot of work. -Matt Sconce

Probably wouldn't see it in the theater but I'm interested enough to invest time in it and curious enough to rent so good job. I say head to the nearest AFM with this trailer. I really like it. It had me asking questions.

Very nicely done.
Loved the atmospherics.
Gun shot needs more punch.
Agree with Matt on the lightning.
ADR seemed a little barren on the first piece of dialogue - "Double shift at the funereal home..." Also, when your actress was saying, "What happened, happened..." There was some distracting back noise...maybe water running from a shower or something. I might try and use her dialogue only as there is no visual to connect everything that we are hearing. Nothing major but it did have me asking, "What is that noise?" instead of focusing on anticipating what was to come next. However, most of the other shots in the trailer where dialogue appeared were well done.

All in all though, I want to see this and you, like many others here, continue to fuel the furnace driving my own film-making aspirations.

Cheers!
Sam.
