Request to cinevate

With all of these new, shiny, sturdy spinning GG adapters out, you should release a new adapter... I'm trying to be loyal but the Blade and RR2 look so tempting. The Brevis is aging..

Well theres one thing I find thats a hassle with these spinning or vibrating GG's...it needs battery, gear gets soo long and heavy...

I want to get Cinemek's G35, static and no battery...just waiting for my camera's mount to be available...

personality I find static GG adapters useless because you can't stop down. What kind of control does that give you?

I'd love the idea of a static adaptor to work. Every adaptor I've owned and used (except PS) has failed to spin or vibrate at one time or another due to electronics or mechanical failure. I've use them all. This is the main reason, I got out of the adaptor world because of the risk. If the reports from the real heavy users out there are good, I may jump back in. But I'm done with being the beta guinea pig. Someone out there give us your 100,000 mile maintenance report (feature, long doc, etc).

My only static experience was Mtube was soft beyond the depths of SD resolution and lost two stops. True disappointment. But they now have this smaller version, the mini. Any reports?

The bummer with static are the low stops. But all the images I've seen from Cinemek have been pretty stunning.

re: Cinevate. Where can the adaptors go? You can always improve build and optics I guess. But in terms of a revolutionary design who knows.

But I'll throw this out there. Nikon mounts in general suck. I'm working with Jacek at Optitek to develop a PL style Nikon mount for RED (because their Nikon mount really blows) based off the Vista Vision nikon mount of yore. No twist, click and jiggle. Just turn a collar and it presses the lens into the mount via friction like a miniature Arri PL.

What would be a big advance in the adpator world would be for one of the four to contact Jacek and have him make it for their adaptors. That would up the game real fast. The only one using this concept of course is PS technik in their IMS system.

All right. What are you waiting for? Pick up your phones and dial.....

Static adapter are extremely easy to build, but what it boils down to is the ground glass. I think what you guys are looking for is a company that not only can make a static adapter, but the GG to go with it that deliveries great results in any condition. However this is like trying to find the a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow.

I have only used the adapters I've made, and haven't had many problems, but I guess if you how to fix them it comes in handy onset. All share their problems, and eventually will be replaced with the R3K. Until then you just need to deal with it.

I think the main problem with most adapters are, cheap made fastly pushed prototypes. For the companies that take their time and put out great working units, well the market controls this. For the price that people are willing to pay for an adapter, you can't really put to much into them.

well i think dennis hinted that cinevate will carry the fiber screen the gentleman from Greece is working on. That's a grainless solution where the vibration is really only used to disguise dust particles that may happen upon the GG. IF you throw that in and seal the brevis so it's free of dust.. then i think that the pitfalls of a failed motor are pretty much mitigated. The bokeh rendition looks great too. Having said that, I'm expectiing the blade next month...hahaha

Tim Naylor - I'm with you (shout outs to NYU alum!). I'm seriously considering buying an adapter, but have been leery of putting down 2000 plus on a piece of kit that may not be working dependably in two years.
I put down 2000 for a forty year old Arri SB in 2001 and it's still chugging along beautifully. How about that for a static ground glass ;).

I love this question! The MP.2 is about to drop, and it represents yet another leap forward in what we feel is already the most technically advanced adapter in the world. We are the only system at any price that is completely microprocessor managed and that uses carbon fibre etc. to keep things up to a full pound lighter than everyone else.

For example, the current MP.1 feature set includes these items among many others:

1. User interchangeable CINEFUSE element system. So yes, even the latest technology under development from us will drop right in to virtually every adapter we've ever sold. Our development program spawned the very succesful CFX and CFXL systems and believe me, there's more coming :-)
2. Micro-collimation and XY adjust which are simple features that have been part of our feature set for two years. These two features have been more or less "borrowed" everywhere else.
3. Modular flip system so folks with flipped LCD's or mod'd LCDs can use the system either way. We still sell many non-flip rigs!
4. Full support for cams from the tiny HG21 to 2/3" Broadcast cams..and all based on the same platform. No other adapter can do this by just swapping in CINEFUSE elements.

So yes, we could sex things up with a totally new aesthetic and a pure marketer would say we should. This would leave our extensive user base in the typical path of buying a whole new adapter though and we're not prepared to do this quite yet. Our customers love the fact that we work so hard to leverage their investment. Now on to what the MP.2 adds:

1. Our onboard power system just got better with onboard auto-reset circuit protection, better power efficiency, and faster charge cycles. Runtime has been extended about 15%.
2. The drive system is now completely user swappable in the field and a spare motor is sent in every case. The motor itself is a new custom manufactured unit which improves oscillation properties and reliability.
3. The onboard firmware has been modified to deliver more consistent performance as the cells are drained. The low power warning and auto-shutdown features remain!
4. Dust control measures have been improved based on user field feedback.

Keeping in mind that folks are still using $1500 adapters powered by pager motors tuned with a glob of hot glue, I figure we're doing OK :-) So should we re-package with sexy curves? Good question! If you have a 3 year old adapter from us, you will be able to bring it up to MP.2 specs for just over $200. If we re-package...your old unit becomes locked to that technology. We will be at NAB 2009 with a pile of new gear and our own 20x20 space this year...if all goes well you might just see what we're working on in terms of an utterly ground breaking adapter system. Today we've added a little Brevis add-on created and manufactured by David Smith, who posts here. It's our first user initiated component and quite frankly we're happy to carry it for David. He even shot his own "Cinevate Video University" install clip. Rather than madly running about copying other peoples stuff, we'd prefer to help folks out who come up with helpful improvements!

So an open question for discussion. What would you like to see given the above information?

P.S. A big thanks to the large percentage of customers who took the time to respond to our online survey! We're listening, and I promise very carefully, to all of your input. One thing that came up consistently was that our service was something special...we're working on getting it better yet.

Cheers,
Dennis.

There is a static GG for Brevis under development...

There is a static GG for Brevis under development...

For those that didn't noticed it...

This video is with a static capable GG on Brevis based on fiber optics...

From 09:00 and onward I constantly switching ON and OFF the vibration and I have left intentionally dust on GG to be visible when its vibrating or not...

Notice the sharpness of the image and the lack of diffusion...

To have the ability to switch vibration ON and OFF, at will, is a great option...

Evangelos,

Footage looks amazing, but I'm having trouble downloading it...maybe it's me, but download is at about 10kB/sec and it quits after a while.

Also, if I understand it, your relay is 70mm long and will allow full SLR FOV?

Cute kids by the way!

Yep, it can do both SLR and S35...

It depends on the setup, the relay its modular to fit all adapters...

In a typical setup for a flipped adapter is about 70mm for the S35 and slightly longer for the SLR (90mm)...

The footage I will be forced to cut it in pieces... to be easier to play with...

My kids... I love them, thanks...

A pure marketer would find a way to re-design/change as little as possible, yet describe it in a way that makes it sound like it's a completely new, must-have peice of equipment that eclipses all current offerings. That way the profits are maximized and you not only gain new customers but have old customers continuing to make purchases.

As a Canon FD user who's used an assortment of 35mm adapters, I'll testify to the fact that the FD mounts on adapters have historically been HORRIBLE! I find it stunning how bad they've been. The DIY mount I made using an FD ring unscrewed from a set of old Vivitar extension tubes was lightyears ahead of any 35mm adapter FD mount that I've ever seen from the standpoint of accuracy. It's just like a REAL FD mount, not something crudely carved out of a chunk of metal and then called an FD mount even if FD lenses can't actually be attached to it.

Our FD mount has been a solid product for us for the last two years. It did take three revisions to get it there though...and the odd FD lens can be an issue :-) Without doubt though, the best SLR mount that I've ever seen, although I understand why the bayonet (way simpler) has dominated.

The interesting thing about the MP.1 is only now has another manufacturer emulated it's electronic feature set...and we've been shipping that version for nearly a year. In any case, what we've got coming Q2 in the adapter department will indeed drop a few jaws :-)

Cheers, Dennis!

Ok, I have a challenge for Cinevate. Create a static version of the Brevis with stellar imagery and no more than .5 stops of light-loss. :) I know, it's a tall order but you guys are pretty brainy. I'm always looking forward to what you guys release.

See ya at NAB!

p.s. My Durus should be arriving soon! :) :) :)
