Replacing socket for yoke

I need to replace the socket that affixes my Altman Inkies to a light stand.

I'm considering this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...ories&A=details&Q=&sku=546490&is=REG#features

It's a 5/8" socket with a 3/8" inch threaded top, on top of which, of course, would go a locking wingnut.

My concern is that my yoke has a hole much larger than 3/8". In fact, I haven't measured exactly what size it is yet, so in this way I'm kind of wasting your time.

Just the same, I know that adding in a couple of washers could help. It's just that it would be unbalanced.

I've searched B&H and Filmtools as best as I can. Am I missing something? Can anyone point me to a better choice or make a better suggestion?

Thanks for your help.

You must measure it to be sure. Here's a TVMP adapter from Filmtools:

http://www.filmtools.com/tvadmat42.html

Has a 1/2 inch bolt in the top.

Its doubtful it would be unbalanced with a washer and the other 5/8" adapter you showed. The main issue is would the bolt be long enough for yoke and washers.

The cool thing about the mathews TVMP adapter is that it is a baby receptacle, but also doubles as a junior spud, plus they are drive-a-truck-over strong.

Hmm, that's good to know about. My only concern is that the bolt seems a little long on top, but I guess I'll have to get a few and see if it's an issue.

We made it that way on purpose. Its hard to find an adapter out there with a long enough bolt (either sticking out of the adapter like ours or that screws into the adapter like the Matthews) for some lights that have a larger yoke than normal. For instance, our studio fluorescent models have a hollow tubular steel yoke thats about 5/8" thick--none of the existing adapters I know about out there would work with that. So that's actually a good feature for when you need it. If your yoke is only 1/8" or 3/16" thick, like many yokes, it wouldn't be necessary of course.

You can always cut off the excess with a hacksaw, you can't make a short one longer.
I bought both the one from B&H and the one from Cool Lights. The B&H is much easier to tighten to a baby pin, but the Cool Lights one has a longer bolt to attach to the yolk. Decide what you need more.
