replacement stand mount?

Sorry if I'm having a hard time describing the parts I'm trying to refer to but...

I'm looking to build up my lighting kit and I've been searching on ebay for used lights for a while now. It looks like the best deals are often for the older Colortran and DeSisti lights. Sometimes they don't have all the parts, such as missing barn doors, etc. Often I see them missing the mounting fixture for attaching them onto a stand. So the yoke is there usually, just missing the part that screws onto the stand.

Anyone have any ideas on where I can find the replacement part? I don't even know what it's called.

Also, on a side note, can I just use an adapter to connect a twist lock plug into a standard household outlet?

Its called a TVMP adapter. Get the Avenger or Norms ones, not the Matthews ones.
If it comes with an L6-15 or 20, you can just cut those off and rewire it to take a standard 5-15 plug real easily.

For wiring, just get the correct household plug (for stuff around 15 amps and under anyway) and wire it - or have someone with the know-how do it. You should also check for wire damage, shorts and lack of grounding on used lights.

Theatrical fixtures usually use the c-clamp style mount (save those if you get one though, you never know...).

The Avenger TVMP beats the Matthews because it has a handle vs. a thumbscrew that needs pliers to tighten.

If you get a very small fixture, smith-victor makes a baby-sized (5/8) mount with a 3/8 (or even 1/4) yoke screw. Sometimes it's a little silly to have a half-pound TVMP on a 1" fresnel (yep, I have one) or a nook light.

You'll spend more money on a twist lock to edison adapter than on an edison plug alone, which is all you'll ever need. Open up the plug and cut back about an inch and a quarter of the jacket off the wire. Strip back half an inch of insulation on each of the 3 wires. On the plug, the brass screw gets the black wire (hot), silver screw gets the white wire (neutral), and green screw gets the green wire (ground).

I would also look into the American 3/8th thread to Baby reciever adapter, very similar to a TVMP. The threads hold up a lot better and the locking action is just often times smoother. As long as you just want your light to go on a baby stand, I think it's a bit better than your standard TVMP.
