FS7: Replacement screws for Monitor Rod attachment

I was removing my axis mini adapter on the stock evf and the factory screw stripped. Has this happened to anyone, and if so did you find a better replacement? 20160405_063024.jpg

I've been removing a lot of Sony screws while performing a handgrip retrofit for FS7 handgrips. Sony uses varying amounts of thread glue that can make removal impossible without special tools.

So replacing it is no problem, I have the fasteners on hand but that stuck screw has to come out.
I can remove it and replace with correct fastener w/o glue so you have access in future. Cost is $45 with return shipping included.

Here is the thread about handgrips mods which discusses screw removal if you want to wade further in yourself.

Try taking some vise grips with and clam down on the attachment (put some fabric between grip and plastic to avoid scratches)
That should help relive some of the pressure making the screw easier to remove. I had the same issue and my local shop did that and replaced it at no charge.

Edit- I just noticed you had the rod off already. In my case I had it stripped with the rod on so that is why I needed to clamp it to remove pressure.

Anyone w this problem, a screw extractor did it for me.. Whew!!

I was going to suggest a heat gun and then follow up with a screw extractor.
But let me add that someone a month or so ago posted a panacea for FS7 vf mounting issues. For less than $10 you can get a very cool (even called CoolBlock) and easily mounted 90 degree 15mm rod holder that will solve most all Sony VF mounting issues, except the stupid mount directly to the finder itself.

It took me minutes to install this guy and now my VF is not only quite firm but positioned for comfortable handheld work. Run don't walk to get this.
Also I have come up with a simple solution to the awkwardly accessibility to the BNC outs on the FS7. Put two right angle BNC adapters in place and access becomes easy peezy!
You're welcome!

Hey guys, I've got the same issue.
Can't get the screw to move. Tried both allen wrench and hex key and messed up the screw a week ago. Sent it in to Sony with the remark to remove the broken screw, and yes they did open but they replaced it and I again can't unscrew it, now the viewfinder is twisting and turning as i can't even get it fastened. What's the exact tool? Hex key or allen wrench? That screw is a mess! How can i get rid of the glue? Heating it up?
Caleb, I would send it in to you if I were in the US, but sadly I'm in germany...
Any suggestions before I mess up that screw again?
Cheers, Nic

Nico a hex key and Allen wrench are different words for the same tool .

Heat seems to have no effect on the Epoxy that Sony uses. It's white in color and is not similar to permatex or Loctite.

Your best bet is to get a T handled Allen wrench get the part very cold with an ice bag like they pack fish in. Then very warm- near a lamp bulb- don't melt the plastic . If you want to get really fancy you can make a clay impression of the plastic to place it in As a non destructive clamp.

Then pop that sucker out of there . press down very hard before you twist .

If that fails it has to be drilled out .

That screw is bound to get stripped sooner or later and I solved it by using a short rod attached and then I can attached that rod to whatever I like with stuff that has high quality fasteners. Morgans solution sounds like a good option when it does get stripped.

I bought a couple of replacement ratchet screws but the threading is just to weak.
