Replacement LCD screen

My lcd screen is broken and I've been trying to find a replacement screen for my HVX200 which might be one of the toughest things I've ever done. I've searched this site a good number of times and come up empty handed. The panasonic site has nothing useful on it and for some reason the 800 number maintains that I'm calling off hours when it's not the case at all since it's saturday at noon here in NYC and they say their hours are 6am till 6pm pacific.

At any rate, the repair shops and sites I've looked at claim that it'll take at least a week to turn the camera around and I don't have that kind of time. In addition, and not to boast, but I'm highly technically skilled so if it can be done by human hands, I can do it, so replacing the screen myself seems like the right thing to do. So if anyone can give me a part number or refer me to an ebay link, I'd be extremely grateful. Also any experiences doing the same would be a big help.

Hey dlombard,

I can sell you the LCD on Monday if you like. I believe we have two in stock and should be able to turn around a fix in a day if you prefer that. I have been fixing the cameras for a couple years now but it really isn't much worse then taking apart a home PC. You just need the right screw driver :) those little screws are a ***** to get out if you strip them.

Anyway the part number is VYK1U47... not the easiest thing to pull up on the Panasonic website. Give me a call at AbelCineTech (main line 212-462-0100)on Monday if you are interested and we'll take care of it. Abel has an office in Burbank & NYC.

Looks like you found it... pretty pricey I know. We might be able to fix it for less by purchasing only the small parts needed (VYK1U47 is the whole assembly) however this could take longer to do, cost more in labor time, and I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself.

thanks Andy- I already ordered one and it's on the way but it's good to know about abel, I've heard the name but never been in. hopefully there wont be a next time but if so, I'll definitely be check out your shop.

I remember a while back i had a GS320 and my friend dropped it and theres STILL a big crack, not in the screen, but the crystals inside the screen, and i still havent found somewhere to fix it. Im honestly not worried about it though, im just going to use it as a capture cam for when i get my DVX or HVX (still deciding) which ill get around march-april.
Best of Luck,

Pat.

Still have the LCD's in stock?

Still have the LCD's in stock?

I also have a broken LCD, and broken Battery Tabs. Is the easiest thing to send the camera to Panasonic in LA? I'm in Seattle. If I bought the individual parts, what would the cost be, ballpark? I don't have 700 to spend on repairs. Thanks!

LCD information

LCD information

In case anyone is reading with access to LCD components, here's the info that's on my LCD:

GH2724YB3 -- Some kind of Machine-readable blot --- ZX86A-N (or ZXBGA-N, hard to tell)

Then it has a sticker on the ribbon cable which says

LTA 035D050A
C6C0003063
MADE IN JAPAN

So, I'm going to look for this part online, but if anyone has a line on them for less than 7 bills, that would be super!

They do sell many of the parts separately... but not this one. You can buy all the plastic pieces in the LCD as well as the hinge separate, but the LCD itself only comes as part of the assembly.

As for the broken battery tabs this is another part that you can buy from Panasonic. It is a fairly common problem. I would recommend that you have it sent to Panasonic or AbelCineTech in LA to have it fixed, but if you are pretty good with a screw driver you could do it yourself.
