Hi folks,
I was just wondering to myself if there's going to be a replacement for the DVX series or is this the last camera that will be SD for Panasonic?
Well, it seems likely that the DVX100B is the last SD model they'll ever produce. However, you just really never know; after abandoning SD, Sony actually re-entered SD territory with the PD175, so it's possible that as long as demand for SD continues, they may produce another model. Haven't heard of any however.
They may continue the DVX for a while longer, as long as it still sells, but the HMC150 is the step up for DVXusers. It offers many of the same features as the DVX, but records in HD onto SD memory cards in AVCHD. I doubt Panasonic will come out with anymore SD cameras because most, if not all of their cameras offer SD recording as well as HD. It took Sony a while, but their doing the same thing with their EX1R, offering SD recording as well as HD. For content producers that still shoot in SD (and edit and deliver in SD), the new cameras offer them the option to continue as usual in SD, or upgrade (now or later) to HD.
It just wouldn't make sense for Panasonic to come out with a new SD camera when everyone wants HD (or at least with the option to upgrade later without having to buy a new camera).
