short version - camera slow to white balance (15-20s, sometimes never, depends on scene) after being returned from repair, twice. What is normal time for AWB to shift? From tungsten to daylight or smaller changes from 2800k-3200k?
long version - bought w/rebate in Sep of 05. returned for warranty repair shortly before end of 1 year for serious slow-to-focus and slow-to-AWB balance, took 20? seconds before both corrected at the same time. repair replaced the main circuit board and and the focus mechanism. Camera focussed better but still did not AWB properly, in fact it had serious color problems, highlights and shadows were magenta and green. Camera returned third time, see short version above.
About the parts - repair says the circuit boards for these cameras are not only hard to come by but are "reconditioned", taken out of other cameras, so in effect, I am getting lemon circuit boards every time they are replaced. There are no new boards.
current version - i have a camera that is unuseable and the repair center is unable to fix the problem. I have a right, and I may exercise it, to a properly working camera, whether it is repaired or replaced, I dont care. The items in question, AWB and autofocus, do not have specs per se, so they can be interpreted as being within range of what is "normal".
This camera was a lemon when I bought it and continues to be unrepairable, I'll have to check if Illinois has a lemon law. Most of all I wanted your opinion on what is considered normal times for tracking focus and AWB, and that its hard to tell without samples. I bought this camera because of this forum so if you have any ideas or constructive suggestions I am all ears.
:violin: roger  thanks!
