Repair, Replace, or Upgrade?

My 2yr old DVX100 hit the pavement damaging the housing and side display.
Otherwise, it still seems to focus, record, etc.

We have no local repair centers, so finding a repair center is one issue. However,
what should be my threshold for cost of repair versus getting another camera or
model. Also, is anyone aware of any upgrades that Panasonic might be able to
do to bring my model up to the latest version if I were to send it to one of the
Panasonic recommended repair locations versus another type of repair center.

The camera is used primarily by my son, who I assumed would be taking it to
college next year. He plans to major in film production.

Thanks.

If it were me I'd opt out of dealing with repair shipping and paper. It will save a lot of headaches and money in the long run, I think, if you just get the DVX100B.

Or you can look for a cheaper, used 100A or something in the marketplace. A film student without a camera would be sad. :(
