A couple people here have asked me to repair their failed viewfinder clamping nut

I can fix these, usually overnight so it will not strip again.
Just send me the part below in a padded mailer, it's about $7 to 2 day USPS it.

I'll send it back same way. It's $75 with 2 day return shipping included.

Text or email me below. I often don't see Priv mssgs here for awhile. Thanks

Just FYI, I built a camera dept. machine shop in New Orleans, we work with steel, alum, brass and plastics. We design/manufacture pro accessories and shooters ask me for all sorts of sometimes crazy, sometimes ingenious ideas they want for custom mods and just straight forward blue collar machine shop repairs that involve threading, tapping- adding removing metal parts. I like figuring stuff out and I keep it reasonably priced so it's "do-able", I charge $75 for the first hour and scale that much lower for longer, more involved jobs.

I'm here, I need work! Shoot me a text if you have a mod or repair, large or small.

Here is our new Ajax Axial arm, the most adjustable extension arm in the business

Here is a one off Segway wheel shroud for a steadicam operator shooting a feature here in town last month-

Right on, just send it to your friendly Camera Department engineer! Throw it in a box and it will come back the way you want it

I gotta say as good as the FS7 is, and it is a great machine, you do need 3rd party accessories. The VF tension screws will fail. Stainless steel in aluminum. What could go wrong? I did exactly what Caleb is doing. Pulled all the Sony POS BS off and replaced with Vocas handgrip/cheese plate, which allows for a real VF mount. I then bought an F800 mic holder from B&H for a few hundred bucks and replaced the VF screw (which striped) with a lever style system. Had to drill it out but my VF and mic mount is stable and totally adjustable, allowing me to slide the finder way back for tripod work, or far forward for hand held. I had a host for a show we used to do for HGTV who would say there is two kinds of concrete. Cracked and will crack. That's how I feel about the VF screw and mic holder. Failure is eminent.

Right on Alan. You give me a good idea,

Don't wait until these strip and you have to send them in for repair. Save $20 and get a better solution.

I'll make a professional lever that won't strip, it will have an orientable KIP lever that orients out of your way and is large enough for faster, firmer adjustment. I'll make them with a solid brass stud so it won't strip the aluminum socket like the factory one does. Just unthread the old clamp and twist in the new one, no tools needed and problem gone.

I'll order the parts Monday. The lever I like (pictured) is $15 plus shipping, with the brass stud and 30 mins assembly I'll have about 35 cost in each one and can retail it at $58 with 2 day, shipping included.

Throw your name in the hat here or contact me below. I'll have one delivering to you by about this time next week.

Hey all, I've worked with Caleb before. He repaired my stripped clamping nut and did a great job... Much cheaper than the Sony alternative!c
