It is true that Canon log gamma mask noise, but after color correction is noise more visible, but it is not the main reason for WDR gamma. The C100 is an 8bit camera, so color correction has smaller room for grading. With canon-log there is a shift in colors (cyan-yellow or purple go to blue-green) and this takes a lot of time to correct faces of people. But it is correct that with good amount of light it is better has less noise with iso320 (but for less noise is cine1 gamma better than wdr .
I made a lot of test with different result for daylight and for evening light. Canon log gamma is easy for grading if you use Adam Art "arri" color matrix. I like normal4 gamma for lowlight, cine1 with yellow highlighst at evening (both are easy to correct). I like WDR, but noise in black part is about twice than with cine1 in dark parts of images. So I use wdr for daylight with iso320, for iso 850 wdr doesn't like dark parts of image, but with lights it is ok.I haven't actually shot and messed around with LOG on my C100. I went straight to WDR, not needing to mess with LUTS and get into grading.
