GH2 Rending problem

I use a GH2 and a Canon HV30. There is a huge difference in the crispness of my video files straight from my camera, and after i render with after effects/premiere. I use Premiere pro cs5.5, and after effects cs5.5. I render in h.264 NTSC, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps, progressive AAC, 160 kbps, 48 kHz, stereo, VBR, 1 pass, target 32.00, max 40.00 mbps. For some reason the originals look more crisp than my final projects. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have been working with these programs for almost a year now. I don't have any formal training with them just online video tutorials.
Thanks,
Lee

Were those your export/ output settings or just timeline/ sequence settings? And which one was your video bitrate?

And where in your settings is NTSC selected? NTSC should only refer to a standard definition format, so I'm not sure where it's coming into play since it's an HD resolution.

I just took a quick glance at the4 first few seconds on the YouTube videos. But, it looks to me like you have re-scaled the rendered video by 'zooming'? If so, that is the cause of the loss of 'crispness' If you re-size any video (except for simply cropping off a portion) you will suffer severe image degradation.

Did you do any re-sizing of the raw video before rendering? It looks that way from the first scene of the two shooters running into the game?

Just taking a wild guess...

The image below shows two scenes that look identical, except, the rendered one looks 'zoomed'. If you are zooming in PP before rendering, that explains the loss in IQ.

Thanks for the reply and your help!
I did zoom in a little and used warp stabilizer to stead the shot a little. So, i just tried taking the original and putting it straight into premiere. I used the exact same format(mpeg2) and settings as the first clip. It looks better but still has a slight fuzziness to it. I'm sure i am being way too picky, and to my untrained eye the clip straight from the cam just looks better. I'm just trying to get the best possible image from my cheap cam(canon hv30). I was wondering if there was a setting in premiere or after effects that i have set wrong to reduce the quality of the captured footage from the cam.

What is the format of the raw video from your camera? I just looked up some info on the HV30, and its states that its format is MPEG2 at 1440x1080 and NOT 1920x1080. You may be losing IQ by changing your raw MPEG2 from the camera to a different sized MPEG2? But, just guessing again.

What version of PP do you have? If you have 5.0 then you can choose to encode to the same format as the raw footage. You shouldn't see any difference in IQ then.

When you import your footage, what does PP display? 1440x1080?

I've never owned any video camera other than a GH1, so, I have no experience with footage other than AVCHD (and Cineform AVI. I use Cineform Neo Express to do the telecine conversion of the AVCHD 1080/24 (in 60i wrapper) to 1080/24 progressive). So, other than the AVCHD input formats of the GH1, (720/60p, or 1080/60i) I can't make any suggestions for how to process your Canon footage in PP. But, hang on...there's a lot of experts in this forum...though...you might have better luck on the Canon Forums, since you have a Canon camera. You do know this is a GH1/GH2 workflow forum, yes? Maybe someone in a Canon workflow forum would be able to help you right away?

Sorry I can't help more. I'm sure some *real* experts will chime in ?

Thanks for your help. I have a gh2 also. the intro with the graphic was shot with my gh2(the background anyways). Honestly the small amount of footage i have used with my gh2 seems to look great in rendering.
This was the first video i attemped with my gh2(and a gopro).

Come to think about it, i think the gh2 is really close before and after rendering. I want to start using my gh2 on the paintball field but i have to find a way to keep the paint off of it first. I couldnt replace it very easy if it was to get damaged.

Oh, yeah, that would be baaaad! There was a specifically made underwater housing made for it, but it was upwards of $2k. But I would say look into generic underwater housing and see if anything will fit, with it being smaller than the Canons.
