i use speed edit. what is the best format to render when you want to play back on dvd player? mpeg? avi? etc.

im having trouble with these formats and my dvd player rejects the disc when i try and play

"Codec "would be the correct term, not "format". The format is DVD, the video codec used by the DVD format is MPEG-2.

I'm not familiar with Speed Edit, but whatever DVD authoring program you use should be able to transcode your files to the MPEG-2 codec for video and AC3 or PCM for audio.

if you're shooting HD and the converting mpeg2, you will get edge jaggies and in overal unacceptable quality, in order to get HQ HD > DV conversion you will have to export your movie
as avi uncompressed and then encode is using virtualdub or even better - cinema craft
encoder and also add sharpening.

Man this comment just helped me so much thank you! Could you explain what or how to add sharpening after you've exported it as an uncompressed avi?
