Rendering problems with Final cut express

I upload my project from the camera and place the clips in the timeline. Then I view it on a monitor which is connected to the AG-DVX 100A which is connected to my computer. When I view just the clip it runs fine. But then when I edit anything, such as voice overs, filters, or anything else, then I go to view it on the monitor it skips frames and has blank spots in the audio.

I have tried every setting that was suggested, but nothing seems to work.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? I already repaired permissions which did not help.

Thanks,
Peter

Are you rendering the footage properly first? If you don't it will just try it's best to do it on the fly (although you can change the settings to make it do different things aswell) and that could cause it to skip as you describe. The quickest way to render is select the portion you want rendered (or deselect to render the whole timeline) and hit Apple+R.

I usually "Render All" Should I do it on an individual basis or all at once?

Do you there's a better way to render? Is there a proper way?

Rendering all should be fine.

Your render settings may be wrong, may be rendering to the wrong quality... it is hard to diagnose problems over the web. Try checking the render quality settings... it may be trying to play back at a different setting to the render files.

Does the bar at the top of the timeline turn from red to blue when it is rendered? It isn't green is it? Green means it will try to play it back in realtime and can lead to dropouts.

Also, you not running FCP5 on a G3 or something are you:)? What are your specs and FCP version?

Thanks for takinbg the time to try to help me out. I appreciate it. When I render it is completeing the task.

I'm not possitive what you mean by the settings.

No, I'm actually running Final Cut Express 3.0 not FCP. And I am using the specs that were given on the Panasonic site. I hope that isn't the problem, because I can't afford another 1K for FCP.

I have never used FCE I'm afraid, sorry, I didn't see that in the question - stupid me!

I am not sure if this will apply to FCE therefore:

Go to System Settings>Playback Contro and set RT to "Safe" check that the other settings look right too.

and go User Preferences>Render Control and set Frame rate and Resolution to 100%

It is also worth checking out the Apple support pages at :
lhttp://www.apple.com/support/finalcutexpress/

They are very comprehensive.
