Rendering/Previewing in Vegas 7

hi,
ive been using final cut and premiere pro up until now and im trying to learn the basics of vegas 7. ive captured footage into the timeline and added effects. except i have no idea how to render this so i can preview in real time inside vegas.

im sure this has a simple answer that im overlooking, but in premiere and fcp once you edited stuff and added effects you just had to click render and then it would play the timeline in real time.

the only thing i see in vegas that says render is "render as" under the file menu and that seems to export the video, but not make it playable in the timeline at normal speed

when i try to play the timeline as is, it plays like every 5 frames and goes real slow.
i just dont know what time doing

anyone know what i mean?
thanks
steven

You have choices under the Tools menu -- Selectively prerender video (which is what you do in Premiere and FCP), Render to New Track (which is basically creating an exported file and then placing it on the timeline automatically, or Build Dynamic RAM preview.

You can also use "Preview in Player" to do much the same, only it will (pre)render and play in the media player of your choice.
