Rendering for Youtube

Greetings!

I lurk on here daily but rarely post. What settings/codecs do you use when encoding 1080P, 24fps on Youtube and/or Vimeo? I use Sony Vegas 8.1 (and love it) and have traditionally used the Sony AVC setting to make some nice looking mp4s. It was my understanding that youtube has to do less encoding on mp4s, and it solves the issue of waiting days for a super large avi file to render out.

In the past I uploaded uncompressed avi renders but at this point the file sizes are so huge it seems ridiculous to upload a 10 gig file for 2 minutes of footage.

I really appreciate your feedback. Yes, I have searched the threads but found very little to be of help. Lots of conflicting opinions. I would like to hear what settings other HMC150 users are using.

Footnote: For the past several uploads I have rendered out avi files using the xvid codec. Not sure if I'm using the most recent version but it seems to work alright. Regardless, I really want to be rendering out in the best format possible!

Do you notice a difference if you run it at 20mb/s? I have always used 'high' but i don't have the 'high 5.1' option in Sony Vegas Pro 8.1. Any suggestions as to how I could get an updated codec? I just did a search before replying. No consensus.

Thank you for the replies. Aparently the Sony AVC settings within Vegas are exactly the settings both of you described/linked to. The extension (which is very helpful and I plan on using from here on out) is exactly the same as the Sony AVC/H264 setting, except it automates the rendering/upload process.

Very cool.

Thank you!
