When I burn to a CD and play back the footage large screen on my laptop, the picture is somewhat blurry and not of good quality. However if I minimize the picture box it is excellent.

My question is if I obtain a DVD recorder and appropiate program will burning to a DVD result in a higher image quality of my videos?

Thanks,

Mike

What format are you brning the CD? (QT, AVI. DV codec, etc) What machine are you playing back on? QT by default plays DV at low res. Set Quality setting for the clip to high.

Well, if your CD video file is bellow 720x480, DVD will look better.

So if your video in the CD was made at 400x300 or 320x240, DVD will be better at full screen, because DVD is 720x480.

Anyway it depends on desktop resolution: if your computer resolution is set to 1280x1024 (for example) even the DVD will be up resized to fill the screen and the quality won't be as good as original resolution (720x480).

Playing the video at original resolution (100%) is your best option for quality.

I hope this helps,

I am not sure what you mean by was resolution the video was made. I am using a Panasonic ag-DVC80 camera. I don't think you can adjust the video size via the cam settings.

I am burning to a CD with the .avi format using Windows Movie Maker software which came installed in my Emachine M6805 widescreen laptop. Does this information help?

The camera size is locked but depending on your conversion process it can be downsized.
If you're using a Window Movie software make sure it's set to best quality.
Down side of the CD it will only play on PCs (and only Window boxes with AVI)
It also may stutter coming off a CD since it's not designed to stream that much data.
DVD will provide a more reliable way to display your images.
As mentioned on a computer screen try to display at 100% instead of fill screen.
