render settings or project settings?

I just finished shooting a short film with the dvx100a - I shot 24pA in squeeze mode. I'm working on the edit and did a test dvd of the opening 5 minutes. Everything looks great when i watch it on my larger hd tv. But there is one problem - it looks like it is squeezed twice - like there is an extra set of black widescreen bars at top and bottom.

What am I doing wrong?

It could be a number of things. I would check the DVD player that you played it in first, make sure that the TV type is set to 16:9 if going to a wide screen TV, I find myself setting up peoples DVD players quite often because they have their DVD player setup for a 4:3 TV. The funny thing is that most of them are completely oblivious to it and really never noticed.
