Renaming MXF and all associated files

I have been unsuccessful in renaming all of the associated video, icon, and audio files to attempt to change the name of an MXF clip, and then to have it be recognizable by P2 viewer or premiere. I even went into the XML file and changed the clip name in there as well. Is there a trick to this, perhaps some encoded info in the 32-byte global clip ID that is coded to match the 2 digit mxf name generated by the camera?

Here is my workflow:
1. Rename video clip to (example) test.mxf
2. Rename associated audio to test00.mxf and test01.mxf
3. Rename icon to test.bmp
4. Change clip name in XML to test

What am I missing?

I have found that you CAN rename the unique 2-digit code that follows the first 4 digits (0001EX.MXF) to whatever you want, as long as you change those same two digits (in this example "EX") in all of the audio, icon, and in the XML file in the icon folder. I want to know if it is possible to make that longer than 2 digits or not.

I was hoping to be able to create a more searchable and user-friendly method of nomenclature for clips, so that I would not be relying on only a p2 viewing type program to locate files.

I have found that P2Forge is a good solution (perhaps) because it will allow you to batch convert .MXF files into a simple AVI wrap (without recompression) and it allows for the syncing of audio. I have run a few tests today, and it seems to be what I have been looking for.

Another benefit of the AVI that P2forge creates is that it has a viewable thumbnail that shows up in normal windows explorer views. You do lose your metadata, but I generally keep that in an excel spreadsheet anyway.
