Hello,
I noticed a mark on the lens of my DVX100b, but it is not on the outer glass it seems to be on the next "layer" in and it appears also to have a tiny strand of lint on it too.
Is it possible to remove the outer glass to clean this one?
I may be wrong on this, but I am almost certain that it cannot be removed. Does it actually effect the image though? If not, I really wouldn't worry about it all. I have a nice Canon USM lens that has this problem as well, but it doesn't effect image quality so I didn't worry too much about it...
Hi,
actually spotted the mark while reviewing footage I shot, so I pointed a flaslight into it and saw this mark. Depending on the type of footage you have it is not visible all the time but its enough to bug me. There are 2 tiny screws on the outside rim so it seems possible to remove the glass.
You cant get into the dvx lens from the outside, as the 2nd lens element is nested inside the casing that the front element is attatched to, by unscrewing the screws on the outside of the lens all you can do is remove the zoom and focus rings and thats it. the only way to get inside the lens and remove dirt from the inner lens elements is to take your entire camera apart, take the lens out and dissasemble it from the back, starting at the sensor and moving forward to the front of the lens. i know this because i'm an idiot and did it to my dvx when i had some crap inside the lens. it did not go well.
after you've spent an hour taking everything to pieces you realize that the lens seems to be a dust magnet when its dissasembled, and that one tiny piece of dirt you manage to remove is replaced by 50 more, after spending another good hour getting rid of all that new dust then comes the ordeal of putting everything back together. this step nearly bought me to tears of frustration, all the pieces are so small and fragile, you really have to have a feather light touch. when its all finally back together there is no gaurentee that the camera will even turn on, as all the wires and ribbon connectors that were unplugged previously have to be seated just right or the camera won't play ball.
and what did i get for my efforts? well the speck of dust went away, but i also managed to scratch the front lens element, leave a fingerprint on the inner element, and throw the backfocus completely out of whack. it was one of those moments where you really wish life had an undo button. if its really bothering you, get it seen to professionaly, as no matter how technically handy you think you are, messing around with these cameras is akin to something like watch making, and not worth the potential damage you can inflict if you don't know what you're doing.
Thanks gents, and yes it does sound scary! Joshbalti, I had took a wild guess that this would be a ***** of a job and now that I read your message I do not want to do that because I am only okish with electronics I also bought the cam without the lcd working (cable is broken), I understand the hinge needs to be replaced if you want a new cable, but looking at the diagram it looks like a nightmare as much as the lens thing does.
