Remove reverb

Hi,

i'm looking for a way to remove or even reduce the reverb. Unfortunately, the audio is recorded in a church by a DV Handycam .

Thanks.

The key is (for next time) getting the mic up close. Even a good mic would sound like crap way back from the speaker.

dre83 is right - messing with the eq will not remove the reverb, but you can diminish it/get a bit of clarity with some tinkering. Not ideal ...but you gotta do what you gotta do.

oThe nly tool I have found that works at all (unfortunately not available anymore) is D4 by Roger Nichols (previously know as Neodynium by Elemental Audio). RN bought it then promptly got into a fight with his partners and went out of business. You might find the EA version floating around since they apparently had a real problem with piracy.

It is a multi band compressor but the bands are based on signal strength. So you can downwardly expand soft sounds but leave louder sounds untouched. It could sometimes reduce the echo because the echos are usually at a much lower level than what you are trying to keep.

You might be able to get similar results with an expander gate. D4 had four adjustable bands so you could really fine tune the reduction, but the Expander gate might help.

You might also try other multi band compressors. They all are freq. based but that might still help if your echos are very bright or the reverse.

BUT you are talking minor improvement here not big screen fictional miracles.

Thank you, i'll say to the person who recorded the audio, which is impossible to remove reverb, and asking, if in another recorder in church to install a good device in sound table.

I don't quite understand your grammar here.

Sounds like my Deuglish conversation with a DHL Deutschland representative, over a package that seems to be 'stuck somewhere' between Germany and the US... according to the representative, to insure 'our' safety, packages are being held 'extra long times' these days... the US, Australia, and oddly Brazil seem to have inordinate customs hold times... I'd believe it of the Australians... they seem to be taking many of the bad attributes of US government polices and making them their own...

On the poster's response...

I read the response as the person is going to tell whomever that it is impossible to remove the reverb, and to get a better setup for future recordings...

It's about using directional mics and getting them as close as possible.
