Remove flickering - is it possible?

Hi, i´ve shooted some footage in 25p (PAL) mode and some flickering is visible in the highlights area of the image. Is it possible to make something with it? thanks

if it's the same kind of prob i had, i couldn't fix it in any way.
i just understood it's related to the focus (at some focus length it would't happen) in some way, but no idea on how to avoid that (other than avoid excess of highlights in the frame) or fix in post (none of the tested methods worked).

i shot in PAL too. i wonder if it's a pal-only prob.

When you mentioned flickering, where do you see it? Is it in the EVF of your DVX, or in the final DVD/VCD output that you burned?

in after effects theres a layer effect that focuses on minimizing interlace flicker- Although your footage isn't interlaced, ive had good success using it for basic irregularities. I'd tell you what it was called but my pc is rendering...

also, where are you, and what equipment are you using to view your pal footage?

I am not sure what the problem Jurai experienced was, but mine wasn't strictly flickering. more a 'pulsating' effect.
flickering is caused by thin horizontal lines. My prob happened with strong highlights in the background (this was through the leaves as it was shot in a forest).

Also, in a thread somebody was reporting it depended on premiere 1.5, but in my case even the raw footage looks like that.

just connecting the camera to a video monitor or tv to playback the footage, the problem is visible.

If that's the problem, you probably have your knee set on AUTO. Don't do that, as it'll change on you whenever it feels like (just like autofocus and autoiris).

There is a separate issue which was related to Premiere Pro, but if you're seeing it straight out of the camera, it's usually one of two things: either knee on AUTO, or you're shooting under 60Hz fluorescent lights with a shutter speed of 1/50 (or vice versa).

Em, Barry, if the culprit is due to the knee, what would the recommended manual setting that you will suggest to set it too? I'm quite new to the knee setting & don't really fully understand it's use or how to optimally control it. Thanks.

Andrew

isn't the knee stuck on AUTO when shooting cinelike? i dont have the camera here at the moment to verify this though..

i started myself and followed 2-3 threads on this topic, but actually this knee thing sounds the most realistic explanation so far, since the problem it's indeed related to highlights areas. i will have to investigate this..

The knee is fixed when in cine-like. It's not in auto, but it also is not changeable.

When using other-than-cinelike, the knee can either be in auto, or forced to a certain threshhold. I vote for "low" under most circumstances, unless you think your highlights are too flat, in which case you can raise it up to mid or high.

Pulsating, yes - thats right name for it. I can see it for example on head of my actor, when he has white sky (really bright) behind the face. At some moments, there is white pulsating noticeable on the face. If i play it in Premiere or AE, there is no problem. If i play it with media player, the problem is there.

Amazing, that i see it only on my notebook, on desktop (LCD monitor too) - no problem.

Shooted in cine like mode.
