Removal of NOISE and MACRO BLOCKS from HVX and DVX footage solved!!!!!!!

the important thing to remember is to go easy, don't over process it, then it will look soft and plastic.

Do it in moderation, and the results are incredible!

anyone have a good sharpening setting that is subtle but effective? i've tried up to 200% and found it extremely clear but 200% just sounds so much? What sharpening level do you guys/girls use? thx

I've avoided using a certain color correcting program for some time due to the noise it creates in the video, and I've taken to de-noising(with various filters, which usually took a few different programs) twice when I use this program(I love the results though). This might sound odd, but this program creates it's own noise, and this is accentuated if the video isn't de-noised before processing....so I end up having to do slight color correction, then use a few programs to de-noise, run it through this program to do it's more specialized batch color correction, then de-noise once more...then I'll use various opacities of each part of the processes for a final mix.

So I'm wondering, has anyone tried using this program twice in a row, and how does the final quality react to such an extreme use? I've tried quite a few programs in the past which have been termed as "snake juice"(Voodoo, Miracle, etc.), but they all seem to work fairly well on one pass, and then totally make it look like I smeared vasoline on the lens on the second pass....so I usually stick with multiple programs where I can really tweak the whole process

My current setup works, but if this can be a one program solution it can save me a minimum of two renders....and depending on use perhaps even more....

Just to give a clue here's an example of my current workflow when I really go all out:
1.bring in footage to editor and output as no compression highest quality AVI as possible(for the record all future exports are same)
2. do slight color correction by hand...export
3. do de-noising..export
4. clean de-noising...export
5. color correcting specialized batch processing...export
6. do de-noising...export
7. clean de-noising...export
8. use opacities of each step for final mix

Hello,

I've just got the Neat Video plug in for FCP and it is really cool. I was reading this thread and would like to know one thing:

Is there a difference between:

- applying colour correction - exporting - importing - applying Neat Video plug in - and then exporting

or

- applying colour correction - applying Neat Video plug in - and then exporting

Thanks in advance!

When I'm keying out greenscreen I always use neatvideo first. This makes a cleaner key. I don't think colour correction would effect it so I would apply neatvideo ontop of that. Some people have been applying neatvideo at the stage before you render out. Others have been applying it to only the cut needed.

At the end of the day apply it when you needed it. Hope this helps

Yeah it stopped people complaining about the noise that's for sure

I remember my fears and also hearing others about macro blocks and noise and yada yada yada.

To tell you the truth I have not heard that conversation around here for a long time

Silenced the noise was ;0)

Neatvideo now have a free update for all those who are using ADOBE CS5 64bit :0)

* Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, Motion (Mac)
* Vegas Pro (32-bit and 64-bit), Sony Vegas Movie Studio
* Pinnacle Studio
* VirtualDub (can also be used in AviSynth scripts and in Avid Liquid 7)

# Neat Video provides the most accurate video noise reduction currently available (examples)

# Neat Video efficiently reduces noise of the following types:

* sensor noise produced by digital video capturing devices
* grain visible in digitized film or analog video
* compression artifacts and more...

can some one give us some settings that have been successful for them. when i try the demo, it just looks to blur everything.

thanks

You have to use the noise profile tool within NV. It takes a frame from your scene and profiles the noise for you. That is the very first thing you do when using it.

I would just like to say that this software is awesome. It is one of those marvels that works perfectly and easily.

I was stunned when I applied the filter. Without any effort the noise was gone and the image still looked sharp.

I had some green screen footage of a woman with frizzy curly hair and the key just wasn't working. The edges of her hair were alive with noise until I used Neat on it. The key is now noise free and the end result is perfect.

Together with Keylight this software makes keying easy even with rough backgrounds. Can't wait to use it on some of my other HVX footage.

Thanks to the Op for drawing my attention to this software and thanks to Neat Video for creating a little gem. Outstanding!
