Remote start/stop????

I am curious has a remote start and stop device been developed for use with HDSLR'S yet? I am planning to shoot a music video soon and I would like a camera on a crane and my options now are either to keep the camera rolling in between takes or lower the crane to start and stop the camera.
 
Also, if you have a laptop, you can use the EOS software to control the camera functions via a USB cable. I haven't tried it, but I saw a video about it yesterday, where someone was using the software to help get the settings right when filming himself, including focusing via autofocus.
 
Nextwave..I just LIKED your facebook page...I have normal remotes for my Nikon now. I didn't know they would work in video mode. My remote is a Vivitar and does not have to be line of sight. I can have the remote in my pocket and still be able to snap a photo. I am curious to see if it will act as a start and stop remote in video mode now!!! LOL! Let me experiment!!
