Remote Pan tilt head advice?

Kessler makes a line of gimbals but they are mostly for larger cams and can be expensive. eBay is a good option for their stuff.

Check out ServoCity. I don't have experience with the linked kit, but I have had great success with them as a reputable vendor which will give you design advice. They have other motion control kits and of course sell everything you can imagine individually if you want to roll your own. I made a motion kit for my slider and it turned out great.

Brian,

The OP said be used a Bescor and wanted something better. I bought a Bescor and for the price like it. But it is no good at all for panned shots. It is great for adjusting the view of a remote camera for static shots. Can't go wrong for $125 including an extension cable.

Yeah the Bescor is good for wide shots and reframing static shots. Certainly a good price. But I need something better because it just isn't slow and smooth enough for shots with hardly any zoom.
ServoCity looks really interesting. They have pan/tilt kits in the range of the other two I listed.
Plus it looks like they might even be able to make a small one for my pole cam (another project of mine).

When I added motorized movement to my Kessler slider, they gave me great advice on what hardware to use. They had all the little bits and pieces for the motion component. I built the brackets and had to tap a few holes. The project turned out great and at less than half the cost of the Kessler kit and has more features. The controller I got which may be the same one used on the gimbal has memory. So you can preprogram a movement and then repeat it when ready or as often as you like. I just love this as I can worry over other things while the slide movement is taking place. And it is much smoother than you could ever do by hand; no comparison. The controller has four channels so it could be expanded to accommodate additional movements such as gimbal functions.

I use a Servo City pan/tilt head kit for my high stand sports work. For the money it is pretty good. The controller has adjustments on the two axis' and its strong point is slow movement. You can adjust the motors to get smooth starts and stops but you have to keep up on the adjustments as they do wander over time when transporting etc... It supports my PX270 on a mambo combo stand and the price was right. Runs on cheap 12v battery packs as well.

I'm trying to understand these numbers in real world usage
slowest speed 0.375 rpm
fastest speed 8.5 rpm

Is .375 rpm slow enough to shoot zoomed in much? That sounds pretty slow. I think a smooth start/stop makes a big difference

Ill start you off..

A cinematic smooth pan the subject will cross the frame in 7 seconds

.375 rpm is just more than 120 degrees per 60 seconds or 2 degrees per second or 14 degrees per 7 seconds

KNow the FOV of your lens in degreess, spin these numbers and you are golden :)
