remote live view of the GH1 evf?

On the review site I found these quotes.

"Erich Lahartinger wrote at 2009-12-30 07:25
Hello, can tell me somebody, whether I I also can use this device for the Pana GH 1?
Many thanks, EL."

@Erich: from what I've managed to find, the GH1 uses a 2.5mm 4-pole connector with switched resistors for a remote shutter release (ref: instructables.com).
As far as I'm aware, Phottix don't sell shutter release cables to suit the GH1.
The viewfinder adapters provided with the Hero may not fit the GH1, and I haven't been able to determine if the GH1 has an AV-out socket on it."

Not sure about that but possibly true. I've gotta ask what the desire to have remote viewing is all about? Okay I understand if you have a camera op and the Director wants to see what is going on but with today's technology I don't see how it is a necessity. It isn't like we are waiting on dailies and must see what is in that lens right when it is being shot. We have instant playback on these things. In the old days there was no instant viewing. A director sat there next to the camera and trusted the cinematographer while paying attention to the performance. Maybe I am crazy but it makes sense to me. If anybody else has thoughts on that I would like to hear it.

They guy wants remote viewing, period. I want it too. So when reading a topic like this I always hope that someone will come with A CONSTRUCTIVE answer. WHY someone wants to do something is not relevant.

It was constructive because I found the information where it doesn't work. I then asked why it is desired out of curiosity. Where is your "CONSTRUCTIVE" answer?

Ok when reading your post again I see curiosity. Sorry my friend :-)

Imagine using the GH1 on a crane. Then the cam and/or crane op needs remote viewing.

Using this technology it should also be possible to add a large external LCD screen to the GH1. I would love to have that to make focussing easier, when using the built in LCD screen sometimes I think I'm in focus while in fact I am out of focus $#$%^#$#@

no problem. Okay a crane shot I totally understand. I think the only thing to do at this time is to just play back the shot. It's probably a good idea to plan and rehearse the shots because of this. In live events that would be a problem.

As far as the focus problems I have found that using the EVF is much better to get a focus than the LCD. The EVF has a better resolution so you can make sure you are in focus. The LCD has a better dynamic range and details in the shadows than the EVF. So I use the EVF to get the focus then go to the LCD for everything else.

I believe hotrodcameras.com might be making a video tap this year for the GH1 so external monitoring while recording will be available. Not sure if that will happen but I believe it is still on their site for this year.

Every situation is unique, there are so many examples in which you can't rehearse. Wildlife for example. And when working with actors, did you ever have the perfect atmosphere and everybody is concentrating and on the same page, then you have to set your camera, everybody's waiting and snap, there goes the perfect atmosphere? How often do you tell your actors to freeze, and they start running all over the set to get a drink or smoke a cigarette or to check their mobile phones?

I often shoot frog angles and then it's impossible to use the EVF. Well it would be possible if I was 18 and flexible but I'm not and who's going to take me seriously when I'm lying on the floor trying to look in the EVF. So when using the kitlens and the LCD screen I zoom in, focus, and zoom out again. Works fine. But when using the Tokina 11-16 it's difficult. Then on the other hand, focusing is repeatable with the Tokina focus ring so a follow focus with marker ring works fine with it and distance between lens en subject is easy to estimate.

A tap should be possible, there is a video-signal sent to the LCD screen through wires so it's possible to pick up this signal and it has to be in some kind of video signal standard.
