Great, glad to see the project is almost complete,

what about trying to see if you get 50 deposits from us, and then have a run of 50 directly?

I'm pretty sure you'll get 50 guys to buy this!

I had a nice conversation with 'ol Hocus Focus, and I can't wait to see this released.....the market needs more people! Steadicam Ops get ready......the markets about to get cRaZy :0

Ok, so where is the limit for lenses recommended to use with the HoFo?

SLR lenses = OK
Bare camera such as an EX1 i assume is OK?

What qualifies as a cinema lens?
PL?
How about the new red pro primes?

I'm mostly concerned as there really aren't many 35mm adapters in my city and that won't be my primary usage.

If I had to guess, broadcast means 1/3" and 2/3" lenses, while Cinema refers to PL.

My thought is that a red that uses Nikons will be fine....but anything else on Red will prolly not be suggested.

Zeiss Superspeeds are fine, but ultraprimes, Cooke S4s etc, are too stiff and have a throw that is too long for the motor. The HF is mainly for nikon and canon lenses on adapters, DSLRS and the RED.

What about just the stock lens on an HVX200? My adapter rig is too heavy for my Steadicam Pilot or Advanta-Jib, so I'd be using the bare camera a lot in wireless FF-friendly situations. Will it work that way? I already have the gear for it, from the RedRock manual FF unit.

Well the HVX focus ring rotates infinatly dosnt it? (please confirm this)

It should be possible in any case, as the limits on the HF can be set to keep the settings accurate.

Only one way to find out though.

I am not sure you would be able to fully use a Remote FF on a stock lens system like the 200. The lens requires multiple rotations to go from one and to the other.

Also if you back to 0 focus (macro) the lens will keep spinning but the focus won't change. That will mean the calibration will be off.

Peter: Does the stops on the system work by recognizing the tension on the lens or simply by manual input like the Bartech? Because the HVX is an infinite spin lens.

The Hofo is a manual limit entry. You turn it to one end, press a button, turn it to the other end, press the other button and it stores the positions.

Pete.

It's not, the HVX's lens is fully manual and with a defined focus throw that corresponds to the distance readout.

Yes it is, if you turn the lens it will spin forever. That means the markers on the lens are invalid. As long a FF cannot access the distance readout it is irrelevant to the stop markers.

Back to the topic of using the RFF with the 200 stock lens, with the manual assignment of the stop ends you can probably use it to the angle limit of the motor (i cant remember if the hofo was a 360+ motor. Some AC's I hire will use the RFF with very limited stops to focus back and forth in a very tight area and prevent over compensating. This too can be achieved with the limit settings of the Hofo and a stock/adapter lens.

Pete, your making me nervous, will it handle the stiffness of my 50mm 1.2 Nikon and my 28-70 tokinia f2.8, my IndiFocus can pull them they are just very tight

The HVX's focus ring has very light resistance. Considering that in practice most FF stops aren't terribly extreme end to end, and the HoFo can be programmed with its own "hard stops", it sounds like it should work fine (with the correct gears).

I'm pretty sure I want one!
