The 5D Mkii HD video feature was more of an accident than anything planned by Canon. It was Vincent Laforet that realized that the HD video in this new 5D was a big deal, and he went out and shot an amazing demo in one weekend, which quickly crashed the Canon web-servers from all the people downloading his demo. Canon was very lucky with the whole thing.
