Remember that FX-1 video?

Hi Nate, just comparing the two ( I downloaded the first one as well) you have certainly improved the feel of the video with less blue and a bit more light.

That lead singer is a bit of a rock chic. Was she as nice as she looked, or what? ;)

Just shows what can be done with the FX1 in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

Well done mate!

Wow, did anybody ever question the fx's filmic qualities. To me at least the colour is sort of filmic. Say Nate: Want to share the setup? Or is it your little secret?

Nate - Awesome video. I too liked the music. Just one question though - there seems to be a lot of vignetting around the four corners. Was that on purpose or just what the camera shoots?

The "vignetting" is clearly added in post. It's very common to make such things on ads and music videos. Especially in the end of the 90's there were a lot of that stuff.

That's is some awesome piece of work. FX-1 eh? hmm.. not the new one? If I can make my fx-1 footage look like that, I will opt for the cheap fx-1 instead.

This is nice....I assume there is no artifacting in the master? If so, the Sony is quite impressive.

Tape-to-tape=Color correction session, usually in a telecine suite with a DaVinci. That's what I was talking about.

So all those beautiful colors you see are mostly from the skill of the colorist I used, Brent Greer @Rushes here in L.A...but I sat with him and told him what I wanted.

The only problem with the video in the end is that I wish I would have spent more time tweaking the line twittering in the After Effects downconversion. It looks beautiful on NTSC, but because of the slow-mo (each HD field became 1 SD frame @24fps in After Effects), twittering is a lil noticable. I probably won't do that slo-mo trick again.

There wern't any magic settings, just shot with the lens clean, 1/60th shutter. I shot the best shots I could make on a tight sked and a few lights, and then completed the look with CC and vignetting.

my gad...your video reassures my purchase. i have an FX-1 on the way at the moment and i will be doing music videos not unlike that. it looks beautiful even compressed!!

btw - tsunami bomb rocks

I liked the look... I would have liked to have seen more locations, especially where the singing was involved.... But trust me... I'm working on some treatments right now for bands with indie budget's and there's just so much you can do at this point..... good job....

I really liked it. The slow-mo works well. Did you shoot HDV and output SD on Digibeta? Was MPEG2 artifacting a problem?

What was the budget including the grade etc?

Nice work!

Really nice job. I was thinking to myself...hmmm maybe the FX-1 can pull off some 24p like effects when with the right person. Awesome job. Also the band sounds really good, what mic were you using?

Cool. I think the slow-mo looks great, but the compression makes the faster motion with the "live" band look really bad. Still, the overall video looks polished.

(I saw Tsunami Bomb live a few years back ... good to see that they're still around.)
