Reign of the Fallen - Short film trailer

I'm not a star wars fan, but the costumes/locations were great. I didn't see the powerline in the background, but you might want to get rid of that. lol. Good stuff, keep it up.

Nice Man!! Looks Good. I Think There Are Some Audio Problems Though. Some Of The Dialogue It's Not Centered Nor Close Enough To The Mic When It Supposed To Sound Closer.

My Ten Cents.

Hey, ninjaleprechaun... I noticed your screening this at an outdoor theatre. Not to stray from the topic, but do you know if this place is open to screening other independent stuff (say, some new clean family movies featuring cute kids)?

Back on topic, is the bearded guy supposed to be Obi-Wan or did you create all-new characters?

its actually only a temporary thing and this was the last weekend. They do it ever year though, so look for Thomas Sweet Outdoor Cinema on google and maybe you can arrange something for next year. And this movie doesnt really fit into the Star Wars timeline at all. I just took star wars elements that I liked and sort of transposed them onto this story I already had in mind.

How can I get a copy of the DVD is it on a web page .... good work

Since I just finished the movie I dont have a DVD yet. I need to finish a DVD for a client first and then I'll be working on this. If you want, just email me at production@dtllc.net and remind me and I'll be sending out a bunch of DVD's for free on a first come first serve basis. Thanks for the interest!

Not yet... I was kind of waiting to see if theforce.net would host the movie for me. I submitted the trailer to them about 2 weeks ago.

Really nice stuff, ninjalep. One of the better fan videos I've seen. Technically I noticed horizontal lines in your compression which shows up in my videos too. I'm trying to figure out what's causing them in the "Technical Section". Also, in one of the desert shots you can see a powerline tower in the background. Kind of breaks it out of the world of fantasy, for me. It easily could have been removed with rotoscoping, so maybe you left it in on purpose.

Once again, this was a great video. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words... Im not sure I'm seeing the horizontal lines youre talking about, but I'll look harder for them. Yeah I know about the powerline tower, its gone in the actual movie I just havent had time to take it out of the trailer. I didnt know I was screening the movie this weekend until 2 weeks ago and we werent even finished shooting yet. I'm gonna get some sleep then finish it all off

Hi Ninja, i think it looks awesome. The only horizontal lines i noticed was during the fight scene with the light sabors. Anyways, can you tell us what equipment was used? How big of a crew you had? What software did you use? etc. Thank you very much.

Off Topic Threadjack

I can see the Lines now; check the timeline at

Is it this new QT Codec? I looked at some of my files and do not see it. What is it?

Now PK has me looking for Horizontal Lines everywhere.

Hey, the trailer looked good! It looked clean and nicely edited! But for some reason, I didn't like the way your jedi's look. I don't know one of the guys kind of reminded me of some dude I once hated! Good job!

I'm sorry, but I HAVE TO comment, I love how Bluespider will come in and just throw out:
"I like your short, but because that one dude looked like a guy I hate, I don't like your costumes!" HAHA that rocked BLUE!!!

So far everyone on the forceboard loves the trailer.......If you cant get hosting from theforce.net (i think you will though, good job!) filefront will host it for free.....hopefully. They have a free hosting plan now... I think they accept fanfilms.
BTW-id love a dvd copy Im a big star wars nerd.

We for sure need some specs on this. What settings did you use on the cam? Was the DVX100 or 100a.... Any Color correction. If so, what software? What did you edit on? I'd love to see the DVD once you begin producing them. Awesome job!

I dunno -- check out posts 24 - 27. Looks like ninjaleprechaun could handle a white house press conference!

I used a regular DVX100 with detail mostly at -3 and the Master ped around -7. I under exposed everything about 1/2 a stop which seems to look more filmic to me, and I shot most of it on the long side of the lense. Lots of color grading to get some looks I wanted... Mostly in Premiere Pro 1.5, which I also edited it on. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Hey,

I think the horizontal lines were from the Mini DV compression, but Im not sure if thats what everyone is talking about. As for equipment, we had a bogen tripod, a camcrane, and not much of a lighting kit, an azden mic and some tiffen filters. Biggest crew we had was I think 5 or 6 production assistants for the fight, which was shot over 5 nights. Editing was done in Premiere, compositing in After Effects.
