Hey Everyone,

We've just completed a short Star Wars film of sorts as a practice project and we've posted the trailer online. The finished film is about 45 minutes long and will be available online soon as well. It was shot all on the dvx and a lot of it was accomplished with knowledge accumulated through this website. Hope you enjoy.

You can view it at www.dtllc.net

No Jar-Jar?! I'm sorry but I think it's a rule for any post-1983 Star Wars production.

Just once I would like to see a Star Wars Fan Film that does not have Jedi's in it. I love the Star Wars Universe but damn if the Jedi Tales are not overkill/been there/done that.

And why do they all have really bad english accents?

But.............

For what it's worth:

Technically; this looks really nice with some good attention to detail. The Cinematography appears above average and the trailer is a nice tight edit.
I will give you this much; this looks like it could have been filmed on Tatooine instead of the neighborhood woods like most of these films.

But can't someone do a Star Wars that doesnt have a Jedi torn between dark and light? Anyone?

Because not much else in the star wars universe is particularly interesting to me. I dont particularly care about droids, aliens, or bounty hunters. Also this was originally imagined as a samurai story and star wars was sort of applied to it. Thanks for the kind words about the technical side though.

Mercenaries are a part of the Star Wars universe. Han, Lando, Chewie, it would be nice to get some humor to offset the jedi stories.

finally a fan film shot on DVX!!! you stole my thunder!!! bah... ill do it later.

good job. this is the mood that ep 1, 2 should have taken... 3 was almost there.

can you share with us what location you shot on? desert etc. thanks.

but yeah, fan films can use a bit of a mixture of the variety that star wars was meant to be. just seeing Jedi's doin their thing sorta makes it seem like it' snot really STARWARS...

Yes yes yes

I'd rather see a story of A Rebel Platoon in the SW Universe than another Jedi story.

Oh well.

THats good because I didnt really want to make it star wars, if that makes any sense. I wanted to do my own thing and use elements of star wars that I liked. Making a stylistically original movie thats also a fan film is probably a strange idea, but thats what i was going for. Stylistically I didnt want it to really feel completely like star wars... Except the duel, which I was going for an old school OT feeling for.

I did one a few years back that featured a Stormtrooper and Jawas. Of course, there was a Vader vs. Random Person saber fight somewhere in there where Vader saves the Troopers life. Back then it was fun b/c most people never dreamed you could do saber FX at home... but this was all before Episode I came out and EVERYBODY started making these things.

The only place I ever showed it was DragonCon, but everyone there seemed to enjoy it.

Hopefully theforce.net will host it and Ill be giving away a limited number of DVD's that everyone can obviously feel free to copy and share. We'll see how it goes. Showed it at an outdoor screening on a really nice $20,000 projector playing of a 24P DVD. Screen is about 20 feet and the footage looked great.

Hey, ninjaleprechaun... I noticed your screening this at an outdoor theatre. Not to stray from the topic, but do you know if this place is open to screening other independent stuff (say, some new clean family movies featuring cute kids)?

Back on topic, is the bearded guy supposed to be Obi-Wan or did you create all-new characters?

Really nice stuff, ninjalep. One of the better fan videos I've seen. Technically I noticed horizontal lines in your compression which shows up in my videos too. I'm trying to figure out what's causing them in the "Technical Section". Also, in one of the desert shots you can see a powerline tower in the background. Kind of breaks it out of the world of fantasy, for me. It easily could have been removed with rotoscoping, so maybe you left it in on purpose.

Once again, this was a great video. Good luck!

Hey, the trailer looked good! It looked clean and nicely edited! But for some reason, I didn't like the way your jedi's look. I don't know one of the guys kind of reminded me of some dude I once hated! Good job!
