Hey again all, I just finished work on my first short film, "Regret" (Not to be confused with Mr. Fisher's "The Regret" :)). I wrote, directed, and DP'd it (I know, too many jobs for one person...). We shot on the HVX200 onto 16GB P2cards. This wasn't my first time shooting with the HVX, but this is the first attempt at a serious short film (and my first time directing).

Please give me any comments, critiques, or suggestions you may have!

The full 1280x720 version can be downloaded at http://doodlesofamadman.com/video/Regret_Master_h264.mov , but PLEASE do not stream to this URL, only the first one.

Thanks guys!

well, a lot of the shots felt very long, the short overall felt long and drawn out with a very slow pace. seems like this story coulda been told in about 2 mins.

the first time he saw the woman walking past him that flickered into his previous victim/memory/regret it was cool but then it seemed overdone as the film went on.

i liked the establishing shot of the hotel and when he was inside the hotel, but it seemed like those shots were very long.

honestly i lost interest in the story after a short while, but i do think it was shot well, technically..

keep at it.

Thanks for the critiques, I'm keeping a list of things I need to improve on for my next short, which I am in the process of revising, so anything anybody can contribute is a great help!

This was shot technically well... I will agree the established shots are a bit long, to me it seemed you were going for a very dramatic, sad moment in the character's life. Try using flash backs and close up of his eyes and such. But I liked the feel of the video.

Well done other wise.

It did go on a bit long. I like the CC on it to.

The voice over was pretty bad, to much noise in the background.

Good job on the film, though.

thanks dante, I'm def rethinking how I do my longshots (both scale and time...).

Como, yeah I'm not an audio guy at all, so the recordings didn't come out well. I have already secured a better recording studio and equipment for my next project, so hopefully the bad recordings will be a thing of the past.

I haven't seen No Country for Old Men yet, I've been too busy on films!
