Just signed up! Normally I'm not sweet on e-mailing out to members from a forum about paid events, but really, I couldn't have been more delighted to be solicited in this case. Bought my golden ticket and I'll be looking forward to the class.

great suggestions Rob.. we wil do our best to cover.

The book is at the printers.. so if it gets out early then we will see.. but im just crossing my fingers praying it will be out before the actual bootcamp day.

Is there anyway of knowing before you sign up if the book will be included? (ie. your place in line of the first 30) thanks.

these days I expect a big job. If I get it I can afford to come, then I will be there.
Damn I have never hoped getting a job so desperately as this one. I looking formward meeting you guys.

Okay, so the cat's out of the bag, so I might as well announce it. At the NYC Bootcamp we'll have a special guest speaker -- Marc Singer, triple Sundance award-winning documentary filmmaker and currently embedded with a Marines Force Recon unit, will talk to us a bit about his experience using the HVX! He's due to deploy with the Marines to Afghanistan and Iraq very soon, and we were able to catch him before he ships out for 18 months.

You can read Marc's blog on the making of his film here:

Hotels and such

perhaps this has been posted and i've missed it. but any ideas on hotels and such. i've never been to NY so i'm flying in the dark-quite literally.

i'm hoping to bring one of my team members too-sharing the wealth.

Very excited about Marc coming too. i've been reading his stuff and sounds like a great experience-i know we will learn a lot from him. i'm bringing plenty of note pads.
thanks,
Jeff

Thanks guys. Here is some extra info.

as for extra info, there will be a post opening up in the next couple days that will ask for your name and tshirt size, thats for the name badges and to make sure we get you a shirt that fits.

Hotels.. well its new york, the most friggin expensive hotel place on the planet I imagine. We (the bootcamp team) are all staying at the Millenium Hilton. Its a few blocks from Abel and they seem to have a decent rate as far as outragous is concerned. We coulda saved 20 bucks to stay at a one star but no thanks.

Another option is to stay off the island and take a ferry or cab into the city, but your probally looking at 50-100 bucks in transport so take that into consideration when booking your hotel.

To see exactly where Abel is, click on this link for google map

as a reminder, showtime is 10am on Saturday the 20th, and it will goto 6pm when they kick us out.

See you all there!

That is AWESOME! I loved "Dark Days". I can't wait to hear more about his experiences with the HVX and the Marines.

Okay folks, being that I'm a New Yorker I will do this. Here is a link for nearby hotels.

http://www.hotelrooms.com/USA_New_York_New_York_City_Downtown_Manhattan.html

Also if you are taking the subway. You want the No. 1 train. Take it to Houston Street. Walk 2 blocks west to Greenwich Street, then 2 to 3 blocks north to reach Abel Cine at 609 Greenwich Street.

There are hotels right across the river in New Jersey. The area is Newport Plaza near the Newport Mall or Exchange Place. There is a Marriott near Newport Plaza as well as one near Ground Zero. There are also 4 more hotels in the Newport Plaza area. If you go this route (staying in NJ), you will need to take the Path Train to the World Trade Center stop (I think its $1.50). Then pay $2.00 to get on the No. 1 train heading north to the Houston Street stop. Follow the instructions above after exiting the train.

thanks a lot for all the help everyone. us simple midwest folk really appreciate the hospitality of you city folk. Suggestions on the airport? someone ealier mentioned two-any tips or preferences given a Friday evening arrival and Sunday early departure?
thanks again

Well because Abel Cine is on the lower west side of New York, theoretically Newark Liberty Airport in NJ is actually closer but the second is Laguardia Airport. Both have private bus lines that comes into the city for about $8.00-$11.00. Laguardia actually has a NY city bus the M61 that brings you into the city for $2.00. If you take this bus get off on Broadway/125th Street and go up to the elevated subway and take the No. 1 train going downtown. This will be about 1/2 hour to 45 min. ride going downtown, get off on Houston Street. This bus is slow as it makes regular stop. Also it stops running around 12:30am, so be aware of that if you go that route.

If you come into JFK airport there is a free (elevated) train service that connects to the subway system (the A train) and the Long Island Railroad. The Long Island Railroad going to New York City splits into two line. One goes to Penn Station which is near Madison Square Garden at 34th Street near Macys (p.s. B&H is 1 1/2 blocks away on 34th and 9th Ave). You can connect to the No. 1 train going downtown and get off at Houston Street. See previous post above for walking instructions.

The second line splits and goes to downtown Brooklyn Atlantic/Flatbush Avenue where you can connect to the No. 2 or 3 train. Take that North (into Manhattan) and get off at Chambers Street, the No. 1 train is directly across the platform, take that uptown to Houston Street (a few stops). Follow my previous post above regarding walking from the train station to Abel Cine. The Long Island Railroad costs $5.75-$8.50 depending on where you are getting off.

Both JFK and Laguardia have yellow cab service for a set fee of $40-$45.00 to get into the city.

I'll be there. I registerd using my e-mail address and paypal account. Do I need to register anywhere else? Where do you post your t-shirt size, etc...
