Refresh/Playback Issue with GeForce GTX470 and P.Pro CS5

Help!

I have a problem with the playback (and edit) of the 7D footage:

I have a weird horizontal line flickering and splitting the video into 2 halves

Here I recreated the effect in photoshop so you can understand better what I am talking about:

5u85.jpg

It's always visible no matter render or not. No matter what's the size (scaling) of the Program Monitor Window, no matter what's the Playback Resolution (Full, 1/2 or 1/4)

Actually, this playback issue is visible also if I playback the movies with quicktime player.

My configuration is:

Window 7 64bit/Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 - Drivers Version 8.17.12.6658 (Driver date: 1/7/2011)
Processor i7 930
RAM 12 GB
Internal SATA RAID 0 (1TB + 1TB)

Monitors: DELL 2407WFP + ViewSonic VA2026w
But I don't think it's a monitor/cable issue, because if I connect another machine and playback these canon 7D videos, the playback is OK, no lines no flicker..

Any ideas ?

-Do you get the line with other h.264 footage or just from the 7D?
-When you render to final video and play back that video, does the line show? Does it show when you play back the video on your other machine?
-What's the refresh rate of your monitor?
-Download hwmonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) .. what is the temperature of your Graphics card? Is it sufficiently cooled?

Looks like a vsync issue. Is there a way to force vsync on in the driver for the adobe premiere pro.exe in the nvidia control panel?

Also try disabling your second monitor and see if the problem goes away. I would email nvidia and Adobe about the bug to see if it's an issue with their driver/software

Also try getting the latest nvidia beta driver.

Also Verify that the tearing isn't somehow baked into your footage from a faulty camera.

HI guys thanks for your replies.. as I wrote in the last line:

It's not a problem of the camera, the files are OK.. just when I play back them on this machine.
Also other videos will have this issue..( like.. highresolution movie trailers downloaded from apple..)
Also with VLC or anyother player..same problem with this line-synch

I tried the beta driver I guess.. but i`ll give it a try..

My monitor is set to 59Hz and that's the only refresh rate available (it shows 60Hz too.. but it's disabled..when I click there and accept.. it will automatically go back to 59HZ)
The same files, played on the same monitor, but using another machine are OK.. so i think it's the video card not syncing properly

Refresh rate of 59Hz is fine for LCDs..

I'm stumped....Try lowering your screen resolution temporarily and seeing if it plays back smoothly. It does this one both monitors?

yes oh both screen even if i reduce the resolution, even if I turn off the "mercury engine GPU acceleration" even if i scale the monitor to 25%

but if I play the videos on quicktime and go full screen.. seems like the flicker is gone

Hi

I have found strange crashes and video problems similar but not exactly as you describe caused by other programs being loaded at start up (or later).
My experience is Premiere doesn't always play well with others or maybe vise versa. Even though video is supposed to be abstracted from the hardware, it still runs very close to the hardware and you have all sorts of programmers writing code that gets close to the harware and hence trouble sometimes.

Trying shutting off everything possible that is running at startup. I am sure you know this but many others are reading so for them click START, type into text box that says Search for programs and files msconfig then Select Selective Startup and then in the startup tab uncheck any extra code trying to run at startup. Not sure what something is Google it. Apply, reboot and try again. Maybe even write down what you turned off so you can turn them back on again.

I would call this a bit of a long shot (maybe more than a bit...) but hey it is quick and painless to try. It has solved weird behavior 3 or 4 times for me on my or other's machines.

Good luck, hopefully someone will pop up with just your experience and a fix.

ok thanks!

I`ll give it a try (now i`m doing some rendering and I can't restart the machine..)

btw.. this is what I have in the start up list:

Hi

You mention that you get this issue on other High Def video. I am curious what video you do not get his on. That may help to see if it is a codec issue.
Just High Def, just H.264 just 720P or 1080i ?

If the codec theory goes nowhere then I would test by swapping out the video card for a known to be good but different one.

Any other clues can be helpful.

Good Luck

Hi Blit,
This issue is occurring with all the different codecs, and resolutions. And another machine, with different graphics cards, but same software and same monitors, the videos are fine.

Hi,
My config is a 9800GTX+ and two screens, a samsung monitor and a HDMI Sony bravia HDTV.
I have the same issue with my 9800GTX+ since adobe premiere CS5.5 and Win7 x64. I had Vista x64 and premiere CS5, it worked fine. I tried also a GT 440, stil the same problem...
