Looking to buy shotgun mic/ boom mic NEW on Sunshine Coast, Queendsland, Australia. Any cane-toads out there know the best place to get one? (looking for a reasonable one.. but for a student film). Around $100 would be good.
Dick Smith? WOW?

Thank you!!!

Hi Eliza. Im down on the GC. Theres little chance you will find a mic for $100 thats going to be of any quality at all. Sorry, but its true.

You could call QPIX in brisbane and ask if they have anything old they want to sell? Just a thought.

Rode is made in Australia right? They make great entry level mics like the Rode NTG1 and NTG2 shotguns (basically the same mic with the ntg2 having option for battery or phantom power). They are not $100 (usually $250 US), but you may be able to get close or pick up a used one locally.

Forget the rode video mic seriously. Id pick a beaten up NTG1 or 2, before that.

Okay, I get it- none decent for $100. I'll just spend a little more for a better one. Seriously, I don't have a job or the equipment- i have to start from scratch. Though I'd prefer to own then rent- less risky and I can use the stuff for future films. Up to now, I've been using Digital Cameras with a video mode and $500 camcorders!!!

What's the difference between an NTG1 and NTG2??

NTG-1 requires a source of 48v phantom power to operate. NTG-2 has an internal battery for power for when phantom is not available as well as utilizing phantom when it is. The -2 is slightly longer to make room for the battery. Other than that, they are identical.
