Reformatting card over and over

I'm just curious if reformatting a single card over and over is alright? Doesn't it degrade the card or something?

Yes.. you can reformat over and over.. it's digital bytes. Nothing mechanical. Actually, when you reformat, it doesn't erase the info.. it just tells the card that it's empty and can write over the data on the card. The card appears empty, but actually if you use recovery software you'll see the files are all still there.

I see, so is there a way to totally erase the card? I have the feeling that it affects both the camera and the card's performance? Let's say, for shooting in high bitrate of 100mb/s...

Doesn't that depend on what kind of format you do? There's a "quick format" that just kinda marks the existing content as "not there" without deleting it, then there's a "full format" that actually erases the content.

Just use the Format in the camera and don't worry about it. Format every time after you've downloaded the card and verified your download. This will prepare the card as the camera needs it and will ensure the best conditions for the next image/clip you shoot.

Cheers,
