Reflector

The simplest lighting is a reflector; trouble is I don't know a good one - a really good one

Polystyrene has IMO the best light qualities, followed by a white lastolite

Trouble is Poly fast moves from a nice reflector to a bunch of balls messing up the location

Lastolites are impossible to use in the wind and rarely flat

Any ideas on reflectors (probably 2X2 and 4X4) that

Have appealing light quality
Don't break up
Are rigid enogh to clamp on a C-Stand.. outdoors in the wind!
Thin

As I operate from a Van they done need to fold up just be thin for stacking

Edit: if no such product exists any DIY concepts like this.. http://www.penrynplastics.co.uk/catalogue/product/1441/6386

Thanks

You can get a 4x4 sheet of coroplast for probably 10 bucks from sign shop. I've been surprised at how sturdy it is (same stuff used on 4 foot kino bodies)... depends on how hard the wind is blowing, I guess.

Gatorfoam is fairly lightweight and sturdy, more sturdy than coroplast-but not as white. Are you wanting something
with a mounting frame, as in your example, or just a substrate? PVC is probably going to be heavier than you would like,
especially at the 4x4 size. You would have to go with approx. 1/8'' thickness at the 2x2 size, and 1/4'' at the 4x4 size for
it to remain rigid.

It seems to me to be a very close design crossover - a suitably rigid material fast becomes too heavy if it is strong enough to self support and not break when attached by the sort of duckbill you linked too

A frame needs more bits and becomes expensive and complex

How about you look into these?

the 4x4 Chimera reflector kit is highly portable, the frames fold up into a carrying case. They seem very sturdy as well as being able to attach to C-stands.

That seems similar to the matthew stuff that I linked to - but the chimera set would appear to have the gobo head straight on the frame - which changes the physics slightly in IMO an inappropriate manner - i.e. it can spin in the wind!

I think the best design is a metal sure with tight fabrics - Ill try and get some in my hands and make a choice

Keep those links coming!
