Hi all,

I've been working on a bigger project for a while now but we've had some delays. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, I got an idea for a short experimental film for me. This is my first film shot with the DVX, I'm still trying to learn the most I can from her.

This is an extremely rough cut of the film. Major thing I'm going to change is the audio (since it's copyrighted) and I'm thinking about changing the look of the film. I just want to get your guys opinion first. I want to get the good and the bad.

Reflection - Rough Cut

Thanks everyone,

Michael

Yeah. We were trying to imply that he took drugs and that caused him to hallucinate the whole thing. The bong didn't stand out? or the coke? guess not.

Ok well that's easy to re-shoot. Thanks for the help.

A little too Spider-Man-y [the scene with Dafoe vs. Dafoe,] although you have some cool stuff going here down the potential road. I'd say spend a little more time with your actors, and figuring out maybe some different ways of shooting things. Think of what will best keep us interested in what's on the screen, without being show-offy [with the camera] and disrespectful to the content.

I just could not believe the actor. The effect w/ the mirror was nice, but the acting left something to be desired. The slow mo on the letter was too choppy.

Thanks for your input guys. I guess my first film with the DVX wasn't as great as I hoped. That's ok, I'll keep shooting.

Zach when I do my fix on the rough cut, I've got one more angle I'm going to toss in but I wish I had got more.

Anyone have anything else to say? Did anybody like it? Over 100 people have watched it but only 4 people have said anything. Just wondering.

I think more variety would have helped, shot and composition wise, and the ending was a bit confusing, I figured it was a drug thing but wasn't clear enough. The effect was cool and kept me interested for a bit, was hoping he would look into another mirror or step away for a minute to break up the scene a bit, maybe give it a couple of beats some ups and downs. The performance in the mirror was stronger than the "real" guy, he seemed a little over the top. Great work though! keep shooting, hopefully this feedback helps!

its sort of plain, there needs to be more happening. Rather than focusing on what the character is saying you should put more effort into what hes doing. There should be a little more for us to pay attention to. You can sort of watch the first 10 seconds and then close your eyes and listen but still know whats going on know what i mean? however i like it and it kept me occupied for a couple minutes.

Yasodic, I definitely would have used more mirrors if we had more available. I completely agree that there should have been more things to keep the audience occupied. I kind of threw this script together in 10 minutes and just filmed it in 2 hours that week. We are actually working on a bigger short that has taken most of my time and energy. We had a delay in the production, so I wanted to keep my self going and decided to shoot this quick experiment.
